I took Omnicef for months with no ill effects. In fact, I had specifically asked my LLMD about it because so many of my Lyme friends tolerated it extremely well and I am quite sensitive.

On the other hand I think it kind of stabilized my symptoms that had backslid a lot when I had to go off antibiotics. Yet I can't say it was a wonder drug for me. But it got me back to a fairly stable place.

I took it for several months.

Not only did I have no bad side effects, I had NO effects.

I mean by that, I went backwards.

It did NO good. A'tall. That I could see.

So my opinion -- and this is just for ME: easily tolerated, but not much good.

Darned shame, as I liked how non-herxy it was.

:-(

I am currently taking Omnicef and Ketek. I did notice a slight difference when I first started on it, but since then it's hard to know what is caused by which abx.

Overall, I have noticed quite an improvement in my ability to stand and my fatigue levels. My herxing seems to be letting up, too. Maybe it's time to switch, but I'll let my LLMD make that decision.

Thank you for your responses regarding Omnicef. I guess everyone is different as far as what they notice when on these things. Guess I will see what happens when I start it.

I started taking omnicef two or three years ago. The first month, there was minor improvement. Then it kicked in, and is now a maintenance drug along with ketek. You have to take it with liver support, but other than that, I haven't had any side effects, and don't have Lyme symptoms.

Omnicef can reach the brain and therefore cause a neuro herx. Any symptoms associated with neuro Lyme can occur if you have it up there.

I also had a chest cough for 2 months my LLMD thinks was a flare from Omnicef. But I also had some toxic exposures (construction in my office building and small area of mold in my apt) that likely were also triggers.
