Hello,
I have been treated for lyme since 4 months. Got Igenex IGG positive. I wanted to restest with MDL just for the confirmation. But Lab could not do the test on my specimen, saying something interrupting the result. So odd. I called the lab and they said some medication could be the problem and they are not sure. Doctor says not medication and never happened before.

What could be the reasons?I have been taking Doxy 400 mg when I gave blood, I had been on Zithro, Rofampin, Some homeopathy, lot of vitamins.

Not sure what could be interrupting. Anyone else had same problem. I am going to give blood next time by taking a medicine break.

Please share....

Martha, this sounds weird to me. Did you mean that you re-submitted a specimin and got the same result?

I think they owe you another test done with the most care they have.

yes. I resubmitted it. But same things they r telling. hard to interpret the bands. Even doctor is not sure. Both times was for Western blot. Doctor thinks anyway tests are not accurate, why bother.. But I was surprised. My husband gave test same day (just like that), his came negative.

Was it a WB or Elisa?

Some places will not read a WB if it is a "dirty" sample. In other words, the WB blot has a dark background. This can happen for a number of reasons and has to do with the blood chemistry.
With the dark background, the bands are harder to see and make out and unless you have a strict protocol and proceedure to deal with this it is better to throw the result out and try again. Igenex has a protocol/proceedure to deal with this and in general does not reject sample based on the dirty samples.

If it was Elisa, I have no Idea, sorry.

David, Thanks for your response. yes. It was for WB in MDL. They are saying the strip becoming total purple dark after they pour my blood on the test strip. They are not even seeing any bands there. Usually it should become purple dark where the bands exist, but mine is showing total purple dark on the strip. The result they sent "They could not perform test, please resend specimen".

I resubmitted two times, same message they sent out.

I think you are right, my blood chemistry is not supported by MDL lab. I will try ELisa in MDL there next time, or Bowen lab.
