Hi there. Has anyone out there had a toddler with gastrointestinal issues being the presenting symptom with Lyme?
My two and a half year old started with constipation issues about 6 months ago. (Post potty training issues) Last night she was rushed to the ER as her constipation led to severe straiining which caused rectal prolapse. (Her rectal muscles basically were pushed outside her body and well... GOT STUCK!)
I am having her tested but in the meantime thought it would be good to start asking around to see if anyone else already experienced something of this nature.
Thanks in advance.

Ouch!! You might want to consider going off gluten to see if that would help her. Poor baby!
Sorry I don't have any other information.

I'm thinking food sensitivity too.
Wheat, dairy, corn, eggs and soy are often the top offenders.
Dr. D. R. has written some wonderful books about food allergies and children. They have been around awhile. Her more recent book "Our Toxic World" addresses all kinds of toxins in our lives and the often strange reactions they cause.

Thanks for the responses. Kylee eats a primarily organic diet with a lot of fruits and many vegetables. Since I was diagnosed with Lyme a year ago we revamped everything about how we raise the children... diets were number 1.
No longer do they get processed meats, deli, hotdogs, products that are cured... they don't get MSG, preservatives, additives, food colorings, etc. They drink tons of water... limited amounts of milk, and some powerade (clear not colored.)
I don't know how I could improve upon her diet but I'm willing to try anything. I will try eliminating the glutens, dairy, etc. Maybe they will help.
Thanks again for everything. It helps to have others to bounce things like this off of.

Your posting is a red flag for me. I WISH I HAD KNOWN WHEN MY SON WAS 2 THAT GASTRO PROBLEMS WERE A SYMPTOM OF LYME.
My son had gastro or excuse me as the pediatrician said "Colic" when he was three weeks old. What a horrible ordeal.
Then when he was three he was hospitalized twice in two days for being constipated. His intestines were totally backed up. It was out of the blue as there was no reason for it. He ate well and did not have any food allergies.
At age 5 he suddenly started having bowel movement accidents during the day. This is a child that to date has never wet the bed. Accidents happened on and off for a few years.
He started having stomach aches at age 9 and was diagnosed at age 10. His pediatician is still totally CLUELESS about lyme. Of course now I know that why I had Bells Palsy when 8 months pregnant. We now believe my son was born with lyme. You may want to see a lyme literate doc for you child ASAP.

My daughter had it as a baby and a toddler. We did not know at the time she had lyme since birth.
She also ended up with severe acid reflux. She was checked for celic(sp?) Did not have it.
It was not until her father and I finally found out we were lyme positive and reliezed I had it while I was pregnant with her that we had her tested and she was positive.
Anyhow, that was when she was 12 and now she is 15 and all of those symptoms are gone even the acid reflux.
