Yes,
I have this, and had this.
For myself the worst culprits have been,
Lyme and Babesia.
If you have been off antibiotics then treat these and see what happens.
If you are on antibiotics and treating once of these, treat the other and see what happens, or you may be relapsing on antibiotics,
I did, I started to have air hunger while I was on azithromycin and flagyl after 2 months. About 2 days after this the memory started to go...
I was switched to Doxycycline and things got better.
I had breathing ONCE worse while on biaxin and flagyl for 7 months, it was candida overgrowth.
Only thing that helped this was nystatin, 2 tablets twice a day on empty stomach.
By far though, babesia or lyme breathing problems would have killed me if not taken care of, I am very serious here. Others are not as
bad as I. I have had this disease a long time, untreated when treated finally.

This is called "air hunger" and is common with Lyme, in particular, the co-infection Babesia.

I have this too. Very scary. I had lyme 5 years ago and recently relapsed, and ended up in the hospital. My legs started buckling from under me, and when this happened I had a difficult time swallowing, and it was extremely difficult to breath. Also my right eyelid would close as well.
They even measured my breathing in the hospital and talked about a breathing tube.
I have been on iv rocephren for 5 days now and i do see some improvements. However I am not pushing my luck either. I am pretty much on the couch.

I have these breathing issues as well. Not as serious as some of the people who have posted, but I do notice that it's effortful to get a full breath and that when I do it hurts in my chest a bit. I also get chest pain on occasion even when I dont breathe deeply.
Still waiting on a definitive diagnosis, though.

Thank you all.... I went back to the ER today for the 2nd time this week. I woke up with the same difficulty breathing and pain in my upper back and chest.
I went to work feeling poorly. Later this afternoon I was driving and pulled over to make a call, after being on the phone for a few I was feeling faint and hot.
I felt like I was going to pass out. I went to the ER again, last time they said I was young and healthy, this time they said its anxiety. I feel like there is something wrong with my lungs and I am scared.
Can lyme cause this?????

For me the air-hunger, swallowing, and choking problems have been some of the things that have scared me the most. I'm being treated for Babs now so I hope that helps.

YES! Lyme and especially Babesia can cause difficulty in breathing. When the "bugs" die off from the treatment they release toxins into your body and cause you to have a Jarish-Herxheimer Reaction (JH). If you click on the following weblink you can read about a JH Reaction under the title "Herxing".
I have experienced this "air hunger" many times and I am experiencing it now. It is scary. I also have experienced the "feeling hot" thing all over my body. Especially in my head, face and neck.
I strongly suggest that you find a Lyme literate medical doctor as soon as possible and make sure that you get the Western Blot test and also get tested for ALL of the Lyme Disease co-infections. If you need help locating a LLMD...go to the "Seeking a Doctor" discussion of this website.
I hope this helps you! ~LymeFighter

I went un-dx'd for at least 16 months before finally trying a llmd. I then tested positive igm from Igenex western blot. I was on biaxin 1000mgs for a few months and then ceftin 1000mgs for a few more months.
I have been off the abx for about 5 months or so.
I guess I'm having a relapse. I was never fully better but I was improving but I started having side effects from the abx and had to stop. I continued to improve with just acupuncture and chinese herbs.
Last month I felt almost normal and was loving it. I think that abx are definately needed for proper treatment, and realise that I may have to go back on them. It has been a rocky road.

For temporary relief, try sitting under the A/C vent for a bit.
Air hunger is my worst symtom. That's saying a lot for someone who was being worked up for ALS!
Pre-lyme testing, I had 2 blissful weeks in which I was even able to sing. This was immediately following being treated with levaquin for pneumonia. Which makes me think babesia, although I teasted neg for babesia.
