The Prescription Facts Sheet that came with my Tindamax prescription reads: "This medicine has rarely been associated with cancerous conditinos in certain animals treated for long periods of time. Although this has not been shown in humans, unnecessary use of this medicine should be avoided."

Does this same warning appear on the Flagyl prescriptions?

Has anyone's doctor addressed this issue and said how long is too long to take Tindamax?

Thanks,
Jill

Does anyone who takes or took Flagyl know if this warning also came with the Flagyl prescription?

Thanks,
Jill

Hello Jill,

I was on Flagyll and always read over the literature from the pharmacy and do not ever recall reading anyting like that at all. I unfortnately do not have the paperwork anymore though. I did look up Metronidazole in a drug book at work and it says nothing about any cancerous conditions at all. Pretty interesting (and scary) to say the least!! My chiropractor was just telling me about a study that shows the increace of prevalence of breast CA in women who have been on abx for a long time... I will try to find more info and share.

I was on the Flagyl awhile back and yes it does have the same warning as the Tindamax. It doesn't come on the usual info provided by the pharmacy with your prescription but it is on the package insert you sometimes get if you're given the original manufacturers bottle.

Patrick, thanks so much for the info about Flagyl. I figured it had the same type of warning. Since Tindamax is newer I wanted to make sure that it wasn't the only one with the warning.

Amy, I have read about ABX being linked to cancer. I plan to discuss this with my doc. I don't mind taking Tindamax short-term, but I would not want to take it in the long-term given the warning. Thanks for the reply.

Hi,

Antibiotics can cause cancer, and some of the other drugs we are taking long term I heard,

but, there is no other choice for us now,
I did alternative therapies and went off antibiotics and

relapsed to near death. I was SO gung ho on trying to get the alternative therpaies, the natural stuff to work, I

ignored that I was just about dead.

So, now I see about what you write, and think...

us poor souls, another thing to worry about.

We can only do the best we can do, and then we have to let it go.

My advice is, get onto the RIGHT treatment for lyme and coinfections so you dont have to keep taking antibiotics for life. treating the right way, I think? may make that difference?
Find a good LLMD, and research.

OH, did you know that long term lyme can cause cancer? It can, I read this,

possibly by juicing vegi juice, and eatting well, one can minimize? the long term effects of antibiotics? I dont know, just offering some suggestions.

i, too, have read about the possibility of these drugs causing cancer. Take lots of antioxidants and eat plenty of fruits and veggies to keep your antioxidant levels up. It will help to keep your own immune system as strong as it can while fighting this battle.

I might add that I thought the study I read about cancer and flagyl was for long-term CONTINUOUS use. Perhaps that is why my LLMD has me pulsing my tini. The body wouldn't be under "attack" from the drug as long and could repair itself.

I wonder if TOO many antioxidants will make the antibiotics less effective?
I read this written by a MD somewhere, so for me, I try to get the antioxandants from food.

I say this because I started to take olive leaf extract, I was taking it about 4 hours away from the antibiotic, and I noticed

that I had to take the next antibiotic much sooner then when I was OFF olive leaf.

I am very ill right now, and even have the olive leaf make the antibiotic a little less effective, is a crisis for me.

I stopped olive leaf, and the antibiotics seem more effective.

Antioxandants can come from vegie juice, or good diet eatting foods high in antioxidants.

Others may be fine, but this is how olive leaf affected me. Garlic was ok with antibiotics.
nystatin is something i need next.

I am very sick, so I need ALL of the antibiotics effectivness I can get.

i do believe that the animals they gave cancer was a trial for flagyl. because tidamax is a new version flagyl they put the same warning up. flagyl also inhibits serotonin production in the brain.
