How many people take antidepressants for anxiety and depression and which one do you take? Which one has the least amount of side effects and works the best. I need to go back on one but I don't know which one to take, I used to take lexapro. It worked well but not for more than a year.

I take a SSRI for depression and most importantly pain control. Your best bet is to talk to your doctor about which therapy would be best for you. Each person reacts differently to medications, effectiveness and side effects.

I take Trazodone. Helps me with sleep too. I've never taken an SSRI and don't really want to.

I have tried a lot of them and have paradoxical reactions to many. In addition, certain ones cannot be taken with the erythromycins and other meds - I thik the tricyclics.

I have found the best results on 1/8th of a 15 mg. pill of remeron at night to help me sleep, and also as antidepressant and anti-anxiety. Any more than 1/8th and I am completely amped. The lower dose just relaxes me. (I guess other Lyme px have experienced this and I can only think that it has something to do with our ability to clear it from body).

Anyway, these are only my personal experiences and everybody reacts so differently, especially us paradoxzical Lyme px.

Good luck finding the one that's right for you. I don't know how I would live without mine, especially with the emotional herxes.

I am currently taking Paxil cr which helps alot. I have been on several different ones before I found the one that was best for me. It's really a trial and error.

When I first started abx treatment I went spiraling into a total anxious/depressive state. It was really out of control. I wasn't seeing a LLMD at the time so I didn't know it was a herx.

I was on regular Paxil 7-8 years ago and it worked out well for me. Alot of people and info say that it's really hard to get off of but most are.

It helps me and I can't handle emotional problems right now.

Talk to your doctor and see which ones they recommend. I firmly believe that a psych doctor is the best bet for prescribing this kind of med. They know alot more about these drugs than a PCP.

Good luck to you..kit

I used to be on Trazodone, which heelped me sleep and get a full solid 8 hours when taken at bedtime, but I did not take it in the day because it made me too drousey,so it did not really help depression in my case or anxiety or emotional libility,

I was on & off welbutrin sevreal times I could not tell a real difference with it..

then when going through a terrible neuro allmost physcotic like herx with full anxiety, fear of dying in sleep , seizures etc ,,depresionn, rage crying, and issues with impulse control .. especially concerning the rage and thoughts of it..at that point my LLMD's NP prescribed a antiphycotic that I can't recall the name for sure -but think it was respridril - but after looking it up online , it seemed like a scarry drug with possible scarry lasting side effects used as an anti-physcotic drug ... a bit strong even given my situation , so I never even filled it
..oh and years gao I tried a trial of zolof but decided not to take it at that point - but had no real issues with it.. except no insurance so it would have been out of pocket - hence why I chose to discontinue at that time.

I have recently began taking for depression Prozac 40 mg day which seems to be doing the job well- but there can be and are in my case sexual side effects, and also Zanax 1 mg. tabs 2 x day..she anted me to take 3 x day but wanted to try twice day 1st... for the anxiety which also have worked wonders..

I have found that they both control multiple symptoms and I feel much more balanced overall, but the only side effect is getting used to them a little, as they are combined with mmany other meds I am taking therefore they all together make me sleepy , and as I mentioned prozac can cause sexual side effects, I have been on both about 3 weeks now.

It really is a bit of trial & error, especially the dose..Finding tthe right med for the right person isn't always easy so be patient when trying new stuff , and on the ones that don't require weeks to take effect you may want to try out trial free packs from your dr. office to save you all the expense of trail & error. The older ones will usually have genereics as well- so they can be cheaper than the newest thing on the market.
