Hi All,

Its been a long time since I have posted... been better on and off and am not on the board as much... I still have my ups and downs, believe me... It seems as if I have had alot of trouble with great fatigue and weakness the last couple of years or so on and off. Just wondering if anyone else has this and what has helped them that isn't too terribly expensive.. I will say that I have had the lyme vaccine the first 2 doses back in 2000 and that could have something to do with it.. I know it really threw me for a loop...I wasn't going to a lyme literate doctor at the time obviously. Also, I am 43 now and my hormonal levels are low, trying to work with a doctor on that with some slow gels..... I work full-time and have 2 children who are still young and wear me out! (6 & 9)..... My white blood cell count is under normal also, but not awfully low... I would appreciate any recommendations or advice that you have! I also don't sleep very well, I am a VERY light sleeper!

I've had the same problem. Intense fatigue and insomnia are huge problems for me. I'm 46 and have had LD for 20 years -- it wasn't until I hit my mid 40s that the fatigue became so overwhelming I was no longer able to work.

I haven't found the magic bullet. CORRECT tx for bb and also for bart and babs has really helped these past 2 years. My hormone levels are fine but the adrenals are exhausted.

Adrenal supplementation with cortef and with herbal/neutraceutical supplements seems to be really helping but it's early days yet and I haven't quite got the dose perfected. Adrenal support seems to be making a difference in my horrible insomnia, too.

Make sure your thyroid is OK.

For the hubby, viral tx has helped enormously with the fatigue as well as with other sx (after bb/co tx). I believe that the bb/Co confection pushed his immune system to the point that viruses naturally present (coxackie, EBV, CMV, etc) really took off.

Also detox for neurotoxins and heavy metals, and parasite tx.

If you have any GI issues, check into leaky gut and food allergies. Also check out Bea Sielbert's posts on GARD diet and neurological inflammation (which can be a source of a lot of fatigue) http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=046842

editing to add: Other contributors to fatigue (that I can think of off hand) can be candida and mold--these can be very subtle. Electrolytes can be extremely helpful. And make sure you're OK on magnesium, iron, etc. You're awfully busy, I know, but it's extremely important to keep very careful notes on your diet, how you're feeling, and what you're taking. These details can be amazingly illuminating when tracking down the source of the fatigue. Often it's a thing-by-thing thing.

When you've been sick for a while it's easy to settle for less and think that as long as you're still standing, you're doing fine. You should be feeling good and enjoying life fully, and I believe it's possible to overcome a lot of profound physical insults and recover ones health -- but it's awfully hard work to find a doctor who is knowledgeable in the area that you need them to be.

Best of luck.

Thanks to both of you for your comments/advice... I appreciate it so much! It just means alot to me to know that I am not alone in this and someone else knows how I feel! I just wish there was one magic bullet for all of us so that we could get our lives back... not that I am not happy with the health that I do have.. I thank God for that every night.. I know it could be worse....But to just feel "normal" whatever that is... once in awhile would be nice. I know that there are many factors involved in getting well... I am just anxious for it to happen. Its been about 10 years now that I am dealing with "active" lyme, but I think that I've been carrying it for probably 25..... ! Thanks again everyone! Stephanie

I understand completely about the damage that fatigue can due to one's life.

I have had constant symptoms for 19 years now - and I have been disabled for 6.

The only thing that has had a signifigant impact an the fatigue has been abx treatment.

Other things that I think help are

- drinking lots of water
- consuming enough protien (And for me some of my protien has to come from meat)
- taking multivitamins
- Avioding junk food as much as possible.
- not letting myself get stressed out about stupid stuff (I know stress can really make the fatigue worse) I think this could be really challenging with kids (I just have a cat and he is patient with me) [bonk]

Lymetoo is very nice and she has said this one thing that I forget how to spell mango-something or other has helped her with energy. And I remember she said a specific brand works best. If you are interested you could pm her.

Best wishes

Thanks Azure! I appreciate your thoughts.. I may email lymetoo on that... I used to talk to her more often a few years ago when I was on the board more often... I definitely don't get enough protein... I don't like meat! I will have to work on that one and eliminating junk food as much as I can (another weakness)... I guess batches of homemade icing are out! [Frown] And yes, it can be a challenge not to get stressed out with children! I love my kids dearly believe me, but they don't understand how I feel at times.. and I really don't want them to think I am "sick" anyway! And with working full-time and doing all my motherly duties and housework, its hard not to be stressed and fatigued! I'm just glad that I have been able to keep working.. and hopefully will be able to continue...... Thanks again for your help.. I'll keep praying for everyone on the board for good health and healing! [Smile]

Here is a tip from my doc that is inexpensive and a life saver for me when I feel drained.
Combine N-Acetyl Cysteine and Selenium. The 2 together raise your glutathion and gives you a pop of stamina and energy.
I get mine from vita cost and get the nutraceutical brand you can buy both for less then 20.00 and it last a long time.
I encourage you to try it.

Detoxing in all the ways I can helps me with increased energy. Treating the coinfections, getting hormones balanced and supporting the adrenals helps with stamina.

I also try to do something relaxing a few times a day, just 5 minutes will do wonders.

Very best wishes.

Thanks DolphinLady, JarJar and Betty! I will print your suggestions and check into them... I am trying to do some of the detoxing and eating better which I'm sure will do a world of good. I appreciate all my friends here on the board and the support that you give to me! Its nice to know that I have somewhere to turn for support and that there are others going through the same types of things! I pray for all of you for recovery!

Have you ever spoken to a doctor about testing your autonomic nervous system? ANS disfunction can cause fatigue, weakness and insomnia.

I am treating my disfunction with amino acids and B vitamins. My amino acids were tested and in the tank. I've had a real increase in energy since starting them.

Other than treating the source of the problem lyme & the co's I still also have fatgiue as my most stubborn problem.

Here is a list of things that some peole here have tryed & have helped to some extent:

Cordyceps
Siberian Eleuthero(geinsing)
B-12
biotin
selenium
N-acetyl-cysteine
whey protein powder
xango juice
acid free vit. C powder
NADH(must take on an empty stomach-2hours away from food & supps)
Rhodiola rosea
one detox foot pad durning the day
light walking or very light excerises. Good to get the blood moving & releases endoephines.

*If you can take the sugar- a bowl of blueberrys in the am helps me.

Personally I wouldn't say just one of these supps is the magic bullet.

hope this helps

Have you ever had a sleep study done for sleep apnea, where you stop breathing?

I did upon another board's recommendation; and I have it. It proved also that I can NOT get delta, level 4 sleep meaning NO rejuvenation of my body and NOT feeling refreshed waking up.

My fatigue level went to the bottom lately upon starting half of my new 22 supplements the LLMD recommended!

Best wishes to you & welcome back! Bettyg [Big Grin]

This week I have been trying an organic tea called Yerba Mate' by BIJA. Found it at vitacost.

It does have some caffine.

I have noticed more energy & slightly more alert mental feeling. Lasting about 2-3 hours.

It's suppossed to also have some minerials in it: potassium, mag, & maganese ect... It also is supposed to be a natural diruectic.

Some other claims are anti-depressant & anti-cancer and anti-rheumatic.

Here is are some links for on Yerba Mate' tea:
