I am about to add minocycline to the flagyl that I'm currently taking. However, I read in dr. B's ptotocol that the tetracycline class of drugs may inhibit effects of flagyl. Has anyone read this anywhere else or has it been 'disproved'? If this is the case, I wonder why my lyme doc doesn't know this? What is a good alternative to mino? Thanks,

I don't know the answer, but I have used mino and flagyl separate and together and can tell you that the herx is much worse together....so they do not totally cancel each other out. When I went to an LLMD he did not think this interaction was important.

If you do a search, you will find previous threads about this. Look up Doxycyline and flagyl in combo.

Doxy and Flagyl are used in other diseases togther in combo and are effective. Many on this board have used them together with good results.

You should ask your Dr if he is aware of the warning. Chances are that he knows about it and disagrees with it as many other Dr's do.

Hi,

I have used minocycline with flagyl and can say that what Dr B says is TRUE.

I did not want to believe it, but it was true.

I found that when I was on flagyl with biaxin I could ONLY take 1 flagyl twice a day. At first I had to do only 1/2 tablet and work up.

When I was on minocycline and flagyl, I could take the FULL dose of flagyl, which was 2 tablets twice a day. 4 total. Why was this?
because flagyl was not as effective

with the minocycline so I could handle more of it and not get the herxing because it was not that effective.

I was upset that flagyl was not as effective with the minocycline, because I cannot take the Plaquenil with the minocycline.

SO, what Dr B said is true for me, the only reason I know is that because flagyl was MUCH stronger with the biaxin and alone.

I took flagyl alone, was told to try this, and I had to do 1/2 tablet twice a day and then worked up to 1 tablet of flagyl twice a day.

In Dr B's Guidlines it says that the Cylines, make flagyl less effective, somethink like this.

Too bad that this happens, I am getting much worse, so hope this makes sense, I wanted to get it out there to you.

Trish
