I was told there may be some helpful folks here that know a little about Lyme test results. Since my primary care dr. has been crowned useless by me, I decided to take matters into my own hands and called the lab and set up another Lyme test for myself. I had the Elisa a year prior, and this time I wanted the IgeneX. I got it set up so all my dr. needed to do was sign and send his referral.....which the dear man accomplished! But until I can find a Lyme literate dr. (looks like you guys can help with that too!), I went down to medical records and got copies of the lab reports and thought I'd post the findings here and see if anyone has any clues about what the results mean...since my doc doesn't have any.
I've also been having dull stomach pains and GI problems so my primary dr. referred me to the gastroenterologist. He read the ultra sound that my primary dr. ordered and decided to set up a scope procedure. So I went to the out patient part in the hospital....they knocked me out (oooh, it was nice) and when I woke up (darn) he said my esophogous and stomach were inflamed so he took a biopsy. I go back on Wednesday for those results. I noticed on my lab results that the sed rate was high, so I looked up the meaning for that on the net. It means there is inflamation of some kind in the body as well. Makes me wonder how it is that my own dr. forgot to mention these results to me....I've been pretty sick for too long now.....that's all I know.
Got my results out...now we're talkin brain fog. I just realized out of the 2 different Lyme tests I went and got copies of, I thought the one with the most results listed was the IgeneX.......it's not. It's the Elisa (sp?)...but I had that test done a year ago! Duh.....I'm really not that stupid, it's just that I NEVER saw any of the test results until now! I also know that nothing here has ever been read by a Lyme literate dr.
Oh well, anyway...... for B. burgdorferi IgG & IgM Abs, the IgeneX index result is Borderline and the Elisa index result is Equivocal. The index report is the ONLY thing printed on the IgeneX test results! But the Elisa test from a year ago also has an "Interpretation" printed out. Looking at this now for the first time, I would think my primary dr. would've seen SOMETHING referencing Lyme. It seems that way to me! What's your take on this..
INTERPRETATION:
IgG: Negative....No antibody to B burgdorferi
IgM: Negative
IgG: Negative....Consistent with acute infection IgM: Positive with B. burgdorferi
IgG: Positive....Consistent with infection by IgM: Positive B. burgdorferi in the recent past. IgG: Positive....Consistent with past infection IgM: Negative with B. burgdorferi.
My primary dr. said I tested negative for Lyme with the recent IgeneX and the Elisa a year ago, and now that I'm seeing these reports I don't know how he could've told me that! I also wonder why the IgeneX test doesn't have an Interpretation printed out with the results like the Elisa does??? If someone here is familiar with these things, would you help me understand? I promise not to be such a pain in the deri-area in the future......

If you have the actual numbers that are +, - or IND that will help to determine if you have lyme. Not the fact that it said NEG., that doesn't tell you anything. It should have some numbers on your test like 18, 23-25, 30, 31, 34, 39... etc. Those are what you need to post.

Thanks guys........I really need the support! On both test result pages, there are no listings for bands and there are'nt any numbers.
I posted exactly what was there. I wonder if I should call the lab where the results came from and ask if they have the bands and such listed there? Both tests were done by the same lab. They should have them, right?
Sorry it took me a few days to get back.....I'm down alot these days.

OK, now you have me confused. You say both of these tests were done at the same lab? The Igenex test is only good if it is sent to the Igeniex lab in CA. Is that where it was sent, or was it sent to a local lab?
The lab is what makes the difference in the testing from Igenex.

I'm confused too. IF the test was done by Igenex, then the bands WILL be listed there.
I hope you don't mind if I say a few words here. Sundown and I have talked on the phone over the past months and are hoping to meet each other this week -if she has the energy.
We spoke this evening by phone and apparently, despite her wanting the test to be done by Igenex, and believing it was, it wasn't done by Igenex - the lab sent the blood elsewhere. Perhaps due to the type of health coverage.
In the meantime, I have received my own Igenex kit and it will be here if Sundown gets over to visit me soon.
We can review my Igenex package, look at the tests listed, find out prices, and perhaps she can find the test that she can afford and that will best help her.
I hope her non-LLMD will approve her getting her own Igenex kit and mailing it in herself - thus ensuring the test IS done by Igenex as she wanted.
Sundown is usually tired and isn't on the computer much lately. I'm hoping she will rest for a couple of days and then come over to my place for a visit.
Sundown is a very intelligent and tough person and I feel so lucky to have met her. I hope she feels better and feel there are people here who can help her do so.
Please be patient, she is so tired.

Thanks, Diana, for clearing that up!
Glad she has you for a friend!
It's a shame someone represented to her that she had IGeneX do her labs when she really did not.
However, it sounds like she had positive labs, even at whatever OTHER lab was used.
Sounds also like it's imperative this dear girl finds an LLMD, ALREADY!
I hope she is soon feeling up to posting in "Seeking a Doctor."
Sundown, I hope you're in good hands soon. I'd still keep my gastroenterologist appointment to rule out anything else in your tummy/esophagus but keeping in mind that lyme can do a number in that area and also give you a high sed rate.
Best wishes and glad you're taking matters into your own hands!

Yep........Diana is a very good friend! And a very caring person......with a simple conversation over the phone her positive energy and kindness always makes me feel better!
Thanks Diana, for taking care of my reply here! The only reason I got online now is becuz I can't sleep........slept most of the day today. Still feeling kinda lousy.
I was surprised to see that both tests were done at the same lab in Calif. One of the royal benefits of having an HMO I guess. My primary dr. didn't even tell me the results......his young lab tech (around 24yrs. old) looked up the test results and told me they were negative. So I should probably do what Diana suggested and get an IgeneX kit, but I am gonna call the lab tomorrow and get the ho-down on why they said it would go to IgeneX to be read when it didn't.
I do need to find an LLMD and I'll check that out tomorrow....thanks! Gonna go back to bed again...life's gettin ugly!!!
