I have a recurring severe bladder infection that followed a kidney stone several weeks ago. I was on Macrobid for 14 days, then had recurrence, so was given 10 more days of Macrobid.

It's baaaack!

I have a fever and feel lousy. I saw my doc today and she prescribed Clindamycin HCL 150 - 4X/day.

I have never taken this drug. Looked it up and saw all kinds of warnings. It is an older drug, but she says it really works for bladder infection. I couldn't find reference to bladder in the info at www.rxlist.com

So has anyone taken this? Did it work for you?

Ann - OH

Hi Ann,

I just finished a round of biaxin with clindamycin. I was a little leary of taking it, but it wasn't bad. I took 2 150 mg capsules twice a day along with biaxin as part of my Lyme treatment.

My pharmacist said if I was able to tolerate the clindamycin, I should have no problem with minocycline. He thought it would have been harder to tolerate than minocycline. Mino hasn't been bad either. But remember, I haven't had this disease for years as others may have.

It can cause a herx.

I hope you have an easy time as I did. Keep up the probiotics.

Nancy

I took it this year for the last 3 months moved it out in exchange foromnicef Iam still on biaxin xl and omnicef.
Just started omnicef yesterday.

I should mention I think I passed a stone a week ago?had blood in urien at beginning of pee stream, none after 2nd day.
I was taking it because it gets anerobic bacteria.
Between it and biaxin xl leaves a horrible nickle, penny earwax taste in your mouth though.

I had absolutley no colon problems take plenty of acidophilis, but the first week terrible upset stomach dont lay down after taking it stay up at least half hr drink two glasses of water it did to me about what doxy did stomach wise.

After a week I was fine if I did the above water x2 and stay sitting up half hr.

I've been taking 150mg Clindamycin 4 times a day too. It took me about ten days to get to that dose, but am having no problems with it now.

I'm also taking Quinine and Malarone which are making me REALLY sick.

Hope you feel better soon!

I was on clinda (and biaxin) for many months for babs. When I first began taking clinda I coincidentally had just tested positive for a urinary tract infection. I felt feverish for a few days, but then felt so much better. Clinda worked really well for me and I had very minimal herxing while on it.

hope it works as well for you [Smile]

Thank you so much for all the good info!

Stuckon Lyme - those are good results! I don't think I saw those in the info. on Clindamycin.

Nancy, Thank you for the reminder on probiotics. I take a good capsule every day. Maybe I will take 2. I take primadophilus.

Tree, - so nice to hear from you - I have been doing the full glass of water - now I will drink 2 and have not been lying down for 1/2 hr. after taking it. I have had a funny taste, but not quite the " a horrible nickle, penny earwax taste"
you mentioned. That broke me up!

AP, I hope you stopped taking it right away. That was one of the warnings. Are you okay now?

Kathy, I was told to start on 4x/day and then if I was okay with the drug, to go to 2pills 2x/day. I think easing on it is a better idea - but then again, I was dealing with a very bad infection with fever.

I always loved gin and tonic, so I can't imagine quinine being so bad - don't know about malarone except it is a vile color and does the job.
Hope you are better soon.

TuTu, when you herxed to the moon, did you see Tincup there? I am not expecting to herx as I seem to have Lyme under control. I can take other antibiotics and not herx now. But I will watch out for that moon trip!

Pamyla, Pam. Love the Pamyla monicker! And calling it "Clinda" I never type it right the first time! I have had some pretty high fevers with this infection - actually chills and fever yesterday. It never gets over 102. Doc said the ibuprofen I take on a regular regimen would help control fever and it does - somewhat.

Thanks again,
Ann-OH
