anyone recall what someone posted once about what causes some folks to get sicker while taking diflucan. it was something you can get tested for, to see if you can tolerate the diflucan. i can't find the post anywhere, but i know i read it once.

Hmmm.
It's VERY hard on your liver. Other anti-yeast measures are preferable - at least for me! For many people it can cause elevated liver enzymes.

I would think you're talking about yeast. No need to get tested, just go on the diet and you will find out if you have it.
You will feel great [or better] once you eliminate all simple carbs and sugars.
Diflucan is not hard on the liver for most people. But it is wise to have liver checks every few months if on it long term.

Hi there, Lady.
It may be that I'm more sensitive than others to Diflucan. However, anyone treating lyme is gonna have to get on the anti-yeast train. You don't wanna be throwing Diflucan at yerself all the time.
The anti-yeast train is NOT a fun train, and there is no dessert tray.
OK, actually, it's not all THAT bad. :-)
The trick is to populate your GI tract with probiotics DAILY -- good quality stuff, while at the same time, cutting out carbs and sugar - i.e., the stuff that yeast LIVES FOR!
If you will do this faithfully, you can stay "one up" on the yeast beast, and will hardly ever have to "cure" it with Diflucan because you'll always have the upper hand.
If you fall behind, cheat a lot, and continue taking antibiotics but no probiotics, pretty soon all your good gut flora will be killed off (by the ABX), with nothing to replace it. Your throat will start feeling yucky. Your tongue will get furry. You'll get a female version of jock itch. And of course, other damage will occur as well, only you can't see it as readily -- yeast overgrowth symptoms can mimic lyme pretty closely.
I take Theralac, once a day -- a BOMB probiotic. At bedtime.
I make my own kefir and kombucha tea because I'm a crispy hippie! They're killer good probiotics and free, once you get a batch started.
I have sweets occasionally but not too often, though I do confess to sugar in my morning coffee (there's the horrid truth, though I'm not encouraging it, in fact, you're s'posed to quit coffee, but I'm still breathing and there are certain things that are non-negotiable. )
Lotsa folks on here have other anti-yeast measures and there are other favorite probiotics. Theralac is loved by many here but others will have great suggestions too. With good anti-yeast measures, you probably won't need to be filling any Diflucan scrips!!
Best to ya,
Michelle
