high, waist, but it felt like it was in my back, I think that is typical when I starts getting bad
i was hospitilized, that was bungled initially (rural foreign country) but yea the right abx to the rescue (actually had two mere in the states that were quickly fixed w/ abx)
if you fear a kidney nfection, a quick urine test will indicate if this is going on(I assume, it did w/ me) and despite all the abx you could possibly be on, if it is an infection, a different abx could be needed
interestngly, when i started abx for lyme I had a week that i felt like I was going into this again, read someone elses post and it got me thinking-yeast could ber playing a role. took diflucan for a few days and it went away. knock on wood
hope this helps and take care

usually dull ache in mid back. mine wrapped around ribs some and went down my side to upper pelvic bone. called "flank" pain.
Mine was caused from ureter burn during GYN surgery. I currently have second ureteral stent in place and in-dwelling foley catheter for a month. ug, kidney problems need immediate attnetion.
Urinary culture, CBC, and ultrasound should all be done. start with urgent care while waiting for a real urologist.
good luck!

jif & trails describe it pretty well. Mine was right side of spine, high waist, flank pain. It felt worse when I did yoga twists. It felt better when I applied a hot ginger compress - breaks up stagnation in the kidney.
Get the urine test. It will show white blood cells if there is an infection.
I waited too long, ignored the pain. I ended up in the ER with harpoon like pain in my back. A stone had "exploded" and got an infection. I had the stone removed and went on Cipro for the infection. Nasy drug but it works.
