I think the book is a MUST for anyone with Lyme disease. Information is power and there are numerous important treatment options mentioned in the book. I do not believe that ABX alone are a path to success and combination therapy with ABX and herbs may be a more useful option. I also know many people that had done the non-ABX approach and have made progress as well. I personally have combined both.

I also bought the book and found no help with it - mainly because I don't trust herbs - afraid of allergies.

I gave the book to my daughter, who also has Lyme. Her husband, who suspects he has lyme but has not been tested, is trying some of the things in it. I haven't asked him if has helped.

I read the book. Very interesting.

You can find used copies at amazon.com for $13.

I also read his Book "Herbal Antibiotics" too. A slightly different approach than His "healing Lyme Book" as it covers a wide range of different illness's.

It is a great book, although I followed the protocol for 6 months with little results. My vision problems flared quite a bit while on it which may have been a herx. I couldn't see it through to tell if it was though and had to get off the program.

Great book. Has tons of info about lyme.

I have done a search on the site about it and found many posts from people that have had alot of success with the protocol.

Good luck.

A great book with stuning information, making me still wondering how could he write such a good book without seeing Lyme patients.

Herbs like us need to fight off intruders (bacteria, viruses and protozoans). They have developed many weapons including many small molecular compounds that have anti-micro-organism activities.

It is believed that each plant must have many defferent compounds to fight various micro-organisms.

And Lyme is a disease of multiple pathogens.

Probably that's why Stephen Buhner highly recommends the whole herbs.

yeah, i have it. since my doc combines traditional and alternative therapies, i'm already taking a few of the herbal remedies recommended, like artemisin and cat's claw. they seems to be working great so far...i'm looking into trying a few other things as well.

if you're going to try the remedies, REALLY try them, for a long period of time and in the dosages they recommended. another book my doc recommends is "beating lyme disease" but i haven't read that one yet.

HOW MANY MONTHS did you FOLLOW the programs in the book?

I agree with you JimBob. If someone really did the full protocol for a reasonable period of time and did not see any change, I would start looking for differential diagnosis and question whether or not Lyme was really the core issue.

Without following the protocols in THAT book, I strongly feel I would NOT be here writing this right now. PERIOD.

I use a LOT MORE than just the CORE protocol. I agree IF you are going to use something, go about it whole hog. Don't dabble.

Abx just about destroyed me. Herbs have been a life saver.

I had to quit traveling the country hauling cars last November because my vision and brain fog had gotten so bad, not to mention the pain in my left shoulder and my knee tendons.

Well, I made a 2,000 mile plus trip last week, with NO problems at all. NEXT week I plan to make a 3,000 mile plus trip to southern Texas and back up here to Wisconsin.

It sure feels good to go in to a truck stop for fuel, etc., and come back out and be able to either remember which way I came in or figure it out if I don't. Could NOT do that last year.

Plus it is wonderful to be able to SEE decent again.

I started the herbs last November 25th after reading Buhner's book. I did do some abx in December and January, that set me back, but going good now.

Do the herbs work. ABSOLUTELY!

He might be good with herbs but what he follows isnt right.
Gaia is the name the ancient Greeks gave to the Mother Goddess who gave birth to all creation. A temple in Athens adjoining the Parthenon, the Erechtheion, was dedicated to her. Today Gaia, the Earth aspect of the Great Goddess, is reemerging in human consciousness. Whether we believe that the Earth IS the body of the Goddess or simply think of Gaia as a metaphor, an ancient myth with modern implications, isn't important. What is important is the impact of Gaian consciousness on how we see and feel the world.

Look at his website
http://www.gaianstudies.org/stephen.htm#Stephen%20speaks

right in the www.gaianstudies

Heres the site:

gaianstudies,org by Stephen Harrod Buhner

I can agree with his use of herbs wholeheartedly but disagree with his belief system.

Heres his picture:

 -

Clip of his teachings:

Stephen speaks regularly on the following Topics:

Depth Diagnosis
The environment and environmental issues
the sacredness of nature
The relation between cultural beliefs and
sustainable habitation of Earth
The art of non-fiction
Writers and the Earth
Herbal medicine
Alternative healing
Indigenous cosmology
Cross-cultural religious and Contemplative
traditions
Leading edge psychotherapies
Legislative and political issues affecting
the environment and alternative medicine

The use of direct perception in the
understanding of medicinal plants and the
healing of human disease Sacred plant medicine

But there is good in everyone.Sacred No useful yes

i used the andrographis, smilax, and japanese knotweed for 3 months or so. i stopped it as i did not notice any effects and it seemed to be just an expense with no benefit. if i had seen a glimmer of something i would have continued with it longer.

Jerry,

What were the data points that led you to a Lyme diagnosis? Are you sure that there are not other issues like mycoplasma, mold, etc. that may need other options? I am surprised to hear that you saw nothing with those protocols.

Wow from all the responses, I think I will go out and get the book. Forgot to ask those of you how long you have had the lymes. I truly believe that after 5 years of hompathic meds, chiropracters, and accupuncture that abx is now the main thing for me to use to knock this out or at least make some type of improvement. As said before, everyone is different and differnt things work for some and not for others.

I read the book and found the information interesting and pretty useful.

My approach to healing has been a combination of antibiotics, herbs and supplements. I passed this book along to my acupuncturist, and she uses it to help tailor weekly herbal teas and Chinese medicines.

Has it helped? After a year of doing this, I've definitely improved a lot. I'm also not sure what things have specifically helped me heal.

I wouldn't want to not take my antibiotics at this point, but I also wouldn't want to stop taking the herbs and supplements either.

That's been my experience.

Treepatrol:
I read Stephen Buhner's book and bought the herbs BEFORE I found his picture and list of his education and interests.

Thank goodness.

After reading the book, I had a mental picture of him as a reliable scientific type, doing research and such.

When I saw the curriculum vitae, my first thought was that, with his participation in the 60's drug culture and his appearance, he was a hippie!

This got quite an amused reaction from many people here at LymeNet.

Well, I guess it does make sense that someone with a vast knowledge of herbs would have that background.

Anyways, it's a pretty good book.
It's too bad that some of the Lymies have such reduced mental capacities that we can't make sense of it, because we're the ones who would benefit.

Some people at LymeNet posted that they just could not understand it; one person said she gave the book away.
Many commented that they couldn't figure out what to do.

I really had to do some work to figure out which of the herbs would be appropriate for my situation, and then look for sources.

I'm sure I have reduced bloodflow to the brain, because I just can't think the way I used to.
A task like this would have been simple before.

The biggest surprise for me was the effect of the Resveratrol (Japanese knotweed).

Apparently it opened up the bloodflow, and my mind began working the way it used to.

My motivation returned, and I began taking care of some things that I had been putting off.

I could think about two things at once.
For instance, I could begin a sentence without worrying about completing it, as I could formulate the middle and end while I was speaking the beginning.

I couldn't do that with the mental fog.

Unfortunately, I developed kidney pain, and stopped the herbs.
I tried the Resveratrol again, and had kidney pain again.

I've started taking some of the others again, noteably the cat's claw.
I didn't notice that the devil's claw helped my joints.

I stopped taking the Siberian Ginsing and switched to Rhodiola, which is also an adaptogen.

My brain is slow again.
I have to think about what I say before I begin a sentence, or I get lost and cannot finish.

I get mixed up when I'm driving.
I keep forgetting to water the plants. A couple of them died. Sigh....

If I remember to do something when I'm on second floor, I usually forget by the time I reach the kitchen.

I'm so easily distracted.
Hey, I should be making the meatloaf for supper instead of playing on the computer!

I've got to figure out how to tolerate the Resveratrol.

I have also found this book and protocol quite useful. I'm happy to say that I had gotten the book and was reading up on the protocol as I was starting to have lots of trouble with the abx.

My liver tests were so elevated and my stomach so trashed from the abx that my LLMD took me off everything including diflucan. Thank goodness that I had the herbal regime to turn to.

I haven't lost any ground from the progress I made while on abx and am still only on exclusively herbs now. My LLMD knows all of this and is fine with it.

I think Buhner is kind of groovy and I'm sure we hung out at Woodstock!

What allways has bothered me is when someone is so intelligent and they have a outside life that I just cant reconcile with my beliefs.

But you cant throw out the baby with the bathwater.

I may buy this book but use my mind to make sure whatever is in it. I use with extreme caution.

Thoughts and etherial thinking are allright outside the body but when ingesting something into the body it is a direct effect on the flesh.

I would not judge a treatment based on someones personal philosophy. I would say am neither offended nor judgemental of Mr. Buhners' philosophies. I would agree he is smart. I cannot say whether what he believes is right or wrong. I can decicde that for myself, but not for him or anyone else.

Let's not allow lymenet to be divided based on religious beliefs. Everyone has the right to believe as they wish.

His protocol has helped me where antibiotics were making me sick. I belive in using the treatment that suits you best. That is one your body can tolerate and one that makes you feel better.

Peace and healing,

I can't believe there are people in the 21st century that still think that look is all that counts.

If you believe all doctors are good and trustable because they wear white clothes, you're on the wrong track to choose right practioners.

If you read about any 'traditional' society, shamans are the ones who look the most crazy, but the first ones that people turn for help when they get sick.

The book is great, the man is incredibly nice, his protocol plus a few other things changed my life from hell to fully active now.

I suspect I'm allergic to Knotweed though... It's the only herb from CP that doesn't test ART positive to me. Even astragalus has tested positive in the past.

His protocol can't deal with other infections that lyme brings, like parasitic infections, brain viruses, mold etc. So it's not a solo, but it's a great start.

Highly recommend!

THAT being said. I did laugh! So SOME good came of it, (I guess????).

I think he looks KOOL in that photo. THIS is NOT a religious disease. BUT a product of the system we have to live in. The trees and plants have to live here also. WE have ruined the earth and keep doing so. WE do NOT have the right to do so. The earth is just on load to us.
NOW we are reaping our rewards as a whole. The whole world is screwed up, royally.

All we can do now, is TRY to help our poor decrepit dieing bodies to survive the best we can.

IF I were going by WHO I would associate with because of religious beliefs, I would have to become a hermit, or near that. I sure wouldn't be here.

We are here because we have a common malady. AND we are in hopes of finding a relief, if not cure, from this "thorn in the side", as it were.

I for one have been helped tremendously by Mr. Buhner's Healing Lyme book. I will continue to study and follow it as long is as necessary.

Be VERY careful how far and how much you vary from his protocols though. AND what you mix in with them. Not all are compatible with them.

Jim,
I do hope you understand that I did not make that comment about "smoking the right stuff."

That was Cave's comment, to my observation that some people couldn't understand the book due to brain fog.
