Hey all. In all the research I've been doing for myself on Lyme, I keep reading about people who are treated and then relapse, spirochettes resting dormant in peoples systems and then acting up later, etc. The articles report people being treated then improving or feeling completely well, but they don't seem to show any method to know whether or not the bugs are really gone. My question is, do the bugs ever really go away? And if so, how on earth do you tell if they're really gone? I just really want to be able to know if a treatment helps that it really has eliminated the illness...that the thing isn't just resting dormant in my system. I've always wanted to be a mother someday and I really want to be able to know that I'm not gonna pass this thing onto my kids! Is that even possible? Thanks

There is no test at present to determine whether you have killed off all the ketes & cycts & other forms they take.

Br B reccomends to treat till all symptoms are gone & then several months after.

Lyme can remain dormant, there is just no way to tell. Best chance are to hit it strong in the beginning & long enough. And to test & be watchful for co-infections & treat them as well.

Some need to go back on a maintance dose of med because if you have had lyme a long time there may be no real way to erradicate every form permenatly.

I am in partcial remission but had lyme 20 years so am on a maintance program probably for life.

I am at present doing rife & supps, after doing abx for 3 years. I may, at any point, jump back on some abx if I start to relaspe again.

This is why, when new people come to LN recently infected, it is vital for to share how important good treatment in the beginning is so lyme doesn't become chronic.

If you think you may still be infected you can ask your LLMD to put you on some abx while pregnant.

Do a search here---there is alot of information on the topic of lyme & pregnancies.
Sorry if I driffed away from your original question

Like Dana said, it could be for life. The only ones that SEEM to get cured are the ones treated withing two or three weeks of getting bit. Even SOME of them relapse.

I was bit, 5 months before I got any treatment. The treatment worked, temporarily. But in 8 to 10 months, I had relapsed also. And it got progressively worse over a five year period. Till I couldn't stand it anymore. Abx the second time around, did not helped, but made me feel worse most of the time. So I quit all abx.

I now am on herbs only, along with a few vitamins. Doing much better, but not "cured".
Don't know IF I ever will be for sure.

I have some "Hope", but not holding my breath.

For sure, treat until all symptoms are gone for at least two months. I've had this forever and am sure it will be in my body SOMEWHERE the rest of my life.

I would definitely become informed about pregnancy and Lyme before becoming pregnant.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

Even though I say it's still in my body, I am now 95% better. I have my life back!
