My dd has been through the wringer.

She got out of the hospital last night. She developed constipation and eventually an intestinal obstruction following what appeared to be a Lyme flare.

She was diagnosed with H. pylori, and started treatment with amoxicillin today. The pediatric GI doctor thought she might have another parasite/protozoa, so she added flagyl.

Now my dd is herxing!

She said this is exactly how she felt after developing the tick rash. Her hips, neck, and back are aching. She looks miserable & has bright red cheeks.

How long does it take to seroconvert? Would 14 days of flagyl and amoxi be enough to induce seroconversion?

Could this be a response to just the flagyl treatment....like a toxic reaction or other drug induced reaction? ...or just to amoxicillin?

Dd's new LLMD said Lyme causes changes in the body that allow Hp to proliferate. I read small bowel intestinal overgrowth can allow Hp into the stomach. SIBO

I assume it's opportunistic like yeast when you're on antibiotics, but I don't know for sure.

The only thing that confirms a herx to me is that dd is having the same symptoms as when she first had the rash...in her neck, backs, hips, and knees. These symptoms came on more severe than the original ones. Could this be due to flagyl?

Small intestine bacterial overgrowth SIBO Bacteria leaks backward in the digestive tract due to something??? poor valve/weak valve??

Bacterial overgrowth is most easily detected by the hydrogen breath test: The patient drinks a sugar solution and breathes into a bag every 15 minutes for two hours. If the bacteria are present in large amounts in the small intestine, they give off hydrogen, some of which is absorbed into the blood, carried to the lungs, and breathed out where it can be detected.

==============

She could be herxing on either med, since the flagyl kills the cyst form.

I hope she's feeling better tomorrow! [group hug]

Hi Nancy

Last week, when i got my positive results for Lyme disease, I was also informed that my H.Pylori IgG was very high but my IgM and IgA were negative. Its hard to tell!

I had been 2 weeks b.i.d 100mg doxy prior to the test. Most would say that there was a better chance for a negative Lyme test given this scenario - but I had an IgeneX pretty conclusive positive.

The first time I treated the H.Pylori is when I believe I herxed also.

As you know there is an unproven theory that the two are cross referenced - its hard to know for sure.

My LLMD took me off the Doxy (which I was doing very well with and improving) and put me on biaxin and Amoxicillin to work on the two - Lyme and H.Pylori. After 4 days I dont know if I am now starting to Herx OR if I am not responding as well to the treatment.

Its so hard to know anything for sure.

Good luck and hope you can find answers soon
Steve

I thought we went over this once before???

Shang...it's not a THEORY...
Helicobactor Pylori and Borelia burgdorferi spirochete are definitely crossreferenced bacteria...

One does NOT have a Jarosch-Herxeimer reaction when killing off H-pylori...

This SHOULD give you and your LLMD proof positive that she indeed has lyme disease....what the heck kinda dumb duck llmd do you have????????

Anyway...your DD should have been given a Prevpac that includes Biaxin(clarithromycin) and Triox(ammoxycillin) and throw in flagyl as well...

Yes of course your girl will herx on the meds she's being prescribed...
If the doctor is using this approach to treating lyme...then keep telling the doctor your daughter is not being cured of the H-pylori.

Whatever works...for your daughters sake.....zman
