Does anyone do their rocephin in divided doses - 1 gram, 2 times per day?

Since I am responding so strongly after 4 days, and maybe bad herx or allergy, I am thinking that divided doses may lessen severe reactions...

Pros or cons of divided vs. single whopping dose?

Is 2 grams a pretty normal Lyme dose?

PS... fever, bad aching, skin hot, burning etc.. sx. No rash from what I can see.

Thanks...

Hi

I do the rocephin in one dose. The first week my hands, feet and legs got very hot.

Do you think it could be a herx.

I think the one big dose is done to maximize penetration into tissues and brain.

I felt good for the first two weeks then bam...I am still herxing.

Burning is a common herx symptoms but you should call your doc and ask about what the fever may be...seems like any reaction is possible with this treatment.

Hang in there

I've done it both ways - 1 gram twice a day and 2 grams once a day. For me, the divided doses were easier to tolerate and I believe they helped to minimize complications. But of course the once a day dosing is easier to work around (I always did the infusion at night right before bed so that if I felt really awful I could just go to sleep).

It's hard to say which way works better or if there's even much of a difference between the two dosing schedules. I think, as with any Lyme treatment, it depends on the person.

The dose of 2 grams a day is pretty standard for Lyme. There are some doctors who pulse Rocephin with 2 grams twice a day (4 grams a day total) for 4 days a week and then 3 days off. But most doctors are still using 2 grams a day in one or two doses.

Peace and healing,
Annie

Thanks you guys. I am going to talk with doc tomorrow to make sure everything iws ok. Temp is 101 now, on ibupofren. Feeling like crap. But at least there is no rash!

I think that I'll shoot for reducing the dose and taking at night so I can sleep through the hell...
