Hi - I've been on rocephin almost 5 months - slight improvement. Everytime my doc (LLMD) adds another antibiotic - after about 10 days I run into big problems - first with zith, now with biaxin...I don't think these are herxes - I think my body simply can't metabolize this drug combo, if the macrolide is full strength...I will try half doses.
In the past I've taken full strenth zith and biaxin with other drugs with no problem.
Has anyone else run into this problem?
Thanks, Deb

Hi Deb,
Sorry you are having problems. This is my experience for what it's worth.
I have used Rocephin and Zith for long periods with no problems. Good improvement in the long run. This ordinarily is a tried and true combo.
I had problems with Biaxin in combo with another ABX....not Rocephin. I can't remember which oral it was.

My experience on rocephine was tht I could only tolerate about 250mg of zith. any more and it was to much for me. We also have to remember that zith has a half life that is much higher than many other ABX. It does build up in the system.

I am using 2 g rocephin, 2000 biaxin and 1500 flagyl. No problems. Herxing (aching) off and on every few days. Seeing real iimprovement. Was on orals for over a year before started the rocephin. Have you been treated for the coinfections? That is what helped me turn the corner . . . babesia.

Thanks, everyone - Jeff, hard for me to believe how much your body can tolerate - WOW! ..My experience is more like JohnLyme's - I have the same effect with biaxin as with the longer acting zith!! _I was on some kind of antibiotic protocol for 2 years before I started rocephin...amazing how different we all are! Thanks for your responses...
