How many pills do people with Lyme have to take? When we,( my husband and I ) had our first
appointment with my LLMD and before my tests had come back,my Dr. who's
also a gastroenterologist and is well respected as such, after an examination he had put us on probiotics and a powder called
Mediclear that we were both to take.
But I( just me), also have to take a capsule called Homocysteine Factors
because of a B-vitamin deficiency and Nystatin for a yeast problem that
stems from my family dr killing off not just the lyme bacteria but all bacteria by prescribing Doxycycline .
So that went pretty well except for the Mediclear which is like drinking sand.
Then our tests came back, mine were not as I had hoped but that's neither here nor there,
so then he put me on Amoxicillin and it's to be taken with probenecid.ooookay.
So that's been going pretty well except I've been having pain in my legs or
now my back ( at my shoulder blade ) and mostly my neck. Also from the get go of taking this and that
for Lyme I've been having problems with constipation. I know T.M.I., sooooo back to the DR. AND
now added to the mix, Naprosyn for inflammation to be taken with prevacid to protect my stomach so it
protects me from the Naprosyn. Plus Mag Ox, for constipation.
All but 1 of these medications / supplements are to be taken more than once in a 14 / 16 hour
time period. Sothis week I'm off the Nystatin, that''s taken every other week so this week I'm taking 17 pills a day
and next week when I go back on the Nystatin it'll be 21. So is this Normal. I have to tell you I was doing okay until adding the Naprosyn and Prevacid / Mag Ox.
Alls I know is I better start feeling at least as good as before starting them
otherwise I'd just as soon put up with the pain. How many pills a day do you people take
Make me feel better knowing it's not just me. KENNEDY

36 pills a day, all but 3 are supplements. This doesn't count powdered C and L-glutamine which I put in water 3 x daily. But I'm doing really well, so open the hatch and down they go!

I noticed that you're feeling worse and don't know if you are aware that Prevacid (So Naprosyn w/) & Mag Ox should not be taken with your ABX.
They will interfere with absorption. They should be taken 2 hrs. before/after. Maybe that's why you're not feeling any better?
So sorry for you. Alisyn

42 a day, mostly supplements.
I'm on a temporary break from abx and am adding one back in that will be up to 44 a day in a couple weeks.
Then will probably add another abx.
I also take glutathione liquid and magnesium powder.
That doesn't count the sublingual B-12, which is usually 15 a day, in sets of 2-3.

Thanks Alisyn for your help. I did know about the prevacid and Naprosyn, but I was taking the mag-ox in the same pile as tha amoxicillin. I'll change that tomorrow.
Thanks everybody. Okay, I don't feel better that you guys take more than I do because I know it's hard. How do you keep track as to what to take and when.
I've been writing down on paper and crossing it off as I take them. It's a full time job.
36,38,42, and N-I-N-E-T-Y. 90 Pills TuTu. That should probably go into the Guiness book of world records.
I guess we just have to be patient, take one day at a time and focus on the light at the end of the tunnel.
There is a light isn't there?
Thank you everybody. You helped alot. Kennedy

I have a several pill boxs(large) that have a compartment for different times of the day , for each day of the week.
It does help & also reminds me if I took the med or supp. Because if I load them for the week and say the afternoon slot still has pills then I know for sure I didn't take them.
hope this helps

I must be the only one here with only probiotics and my IV...
Supps make me soooo sick and So I have cabinets full of bottles, they collect dust waiting for me to move beyond this stage of nausea and my fear of pills.
I spend more time on preparing vegetables and other recipes...but for nine months it's been abx and probiotics only (diflucan once for a week)
Sorry you have to juggle so many pills...

I only took antimicrobials (antibiotics and the Mepron for babesia), and an occasional probiotic, vitamin, or supplement. I think I would be concerned that dozens and dozens of pills might cause reactions, and I wouldn't know which was doing what to me.
Kennedy, if you feel it's too much, consider asking your doctor which supplements you absolutely must take, and which you can do without or take later.
Just a thought, Shaz

Boy, I can remember taking gobs and gobs of pills (plus liquids & IVs) until I thought I was going to sometimes.
Now that I'm just over two years into the MP (www.marshallprotocol.com), I only take 4 pills a day including my thyroid, plus an additional 2 ABX every other day. I feel great and I've even been able to discontinue the sleep meds and antidepressents that I was on for years. (I don't even take aspirin anymore!)
I hope to be off everything soon, but having had the long and sorted history I have had with late-stage chronic neuro Lyme, I am quite content treating well past the point of any fear of relapse even though I'm asymptomatic now.
My favorite thing about not having to take so many medications and supplements is that my illness is finally affordable. There are no words to express how wonderful that is after everything my family and I have been through financially on this long and winding road to wellness. I have recently cut some supplements to try to save money, and found to my dismay that I could not function without some of them.
I just counted (I keep a chart where I write down doses since I have no short term memory, so it was easy to count it up).
I take 13 drug pills, and 43 supplement pills daily right now. It boggles the mind. If LD doesn't get me, my digestive system, liver and kidneys, will probably wear out from having to deal with all that.
The entire top shelf of our refrigerator is filled with trays of supplements, and up on top of the freezer sit trays of drugs, having their undersides kept cool. Here in Florida, you always have to think about that.

I think the amount of pills, supplements is not as much of a concern as the combinations.
I understand why the probenecid is prescribed with amoxicillin however besides the naprosyn and prevacid you mentioned taking up to 21 different pills. Since the probenecid slows the excretion of these drugs they are all staying in your system longer. Could that be causing side effects, new symptoms? If the same Dr. did not prescribe all the meds I would ask about the use of probenecid with everything else that you are taking. I have learned here that you can never be too careful.

MarsyNy, to answer your question, Yes ,they all were prescribed by my LLMD. Today is his last day. He is retiring from clinical practice
Bi- Weekly I am taking 21 pills a day,( 22 counting the Mediclear drink ) but it's of 9 different medications/supplements.
I may have come off as saying that I am taking 21 different ones but you're are right
I am mostly concerned about the combination of them. Believe me up until June of this year, I never even took the maxium daily dosage of
Aspirin / pain reliever. First of all because I absolutely hate taking pills and
I have always been concerned about medication messing with my stomach and liver so I'd avoided them at all costs............so
having to take all this stuff works on me so much that I dread starting the day. Which use to be my most favorite time of the day of all.
And I'm holding on to that memory to give me the push I need to get through this.
But if I'm completely honest,I can't seem to shake this dark cloud I feel lingering constantly. So I'm thinking it has to be depression and it has to be from the lyme
because I was always able to say to myself "Look This Is What It Is",and did what I could do to make it better and I moved on.
But "It ain't Happening" dealing with this. So I don't know. But I do know this, that you people on Lymenet have been my "Life Preserver", and I thank you once again. Kennedy

A long time ago I was taking over 100 a day+IVs+various IV pain meds. A lot to stomach for aomeone weighing 100 pounds! (Since becoming healthy, have gained back plenty of weight:) ) But now I can only take around 30 a day(not 30 different pills--includes 3x a day dosages)of necessary pain, heart, seizure, etc medications w/o supplements, bc I'll vomit if I have just a couple supplements. A pretty weird change, I'd say, especially since my diet is better..

What should I count first- the capsules or the tablets?
One potato two potato three potato four six potato seven potato eight potato more and I forget the rest...
What are we supposed to be counting again? Kennedy- why do you ask such hard questions?
