A patient is desperately needing to get IV zithromax.. and must pay out of pocket.

OUCH!!!

Has a generic been made? Sorry I haven't kept up with all the meds and deals and stuff.

Thanks for any info you can share.

^up^

I'm sure someone out here knows more and if there's a generic for it yet.

There is a generic of the 250mg tablets put out by Greenestone, Pfizer's generic arm.

Generic IV azithromycin from Medscape:
http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/522420

Generic Azithromycin Injection (Zithromax) for CAP and PID

On December 13, the FDA approved a first-time generic formulation for azithromycin 500-mg/vial (made by American Pharmaceutical Partners, Inc; brand name Zithromax, made by Pfizer, Inc).

Azithromycin intravenous infusion is indicated for the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) caused by susceptible strains of designated microorganisms.

You may want to check WalMart and Costco, as they tend to have lower prices on many drugs.
I've also found Pfizer reps to be pretty helpful. You may want to ask the physician to contact the rep on your behalf.

Pfizer has prescription assist programs. I don't know how helpful they are, though.
