Hi, I seem to have a wide array of strange ailments. Another weird one is I cannot take any kind of B suppplements. I get very bad emotional reactions to them.
I thought I'd try Life Water and it has a small amount of B vitamins added. They amount to 25% of "Daily Requirement" per bottle. (Niacin, B6, B12 and Panothenic Acid).
Yesterday I drank 1 and 1/2 bottles and this morning I drank the other half of the bottle. Now I am literally climbing the walls and want to scream and bang my head.
Other times I have taken B supplements, they made me sob uncontrollably. Ok, is this the ultimate of weirdness or what?
Anyone have any ideas? I don't see this as a symptom of Lyme. In fact, supplementing B's is supposed to be part of the treatment. But I don't think I could take that. What do you think?

Have you ever had your B levels tested?
It's possible you are so deficient that your body doesn't know what to do with them when you add them.
Another possibility is that you are low on amino acids your body can't go through the methalation process to use the B vitamins. Although I'm not sure if your reaction would result.
I'm amino acid deficient and, before I started supplementing, B vitamins did nothing for me. Now B-12 with folic acid gives me energy.

Hey s & t..
I have some not-so-good reactions to B-vitamins also... so Aniek has some good info for us both! Thanks A!
The B-vitamins accelerated the Lyme symptoms.. especially the Raynaud's and livedo. Why.. I have no clue. I also felt more emotional... never had more energy when using them.. and basically thought they were not helping me at all.
Just thought you'd like to know.
By the way.. I don't take them anymore. Maybe consider the same?

The B vitamins are involved in regulating emotional states. Defiencies of B12, niacin, folate and B6 especially can cause depression and other psychological conditions. An excess could also I supose have an effect on your mood.
B6 in excess for example can cause vivid dreams. Niacin (vitamin B3) causes a flush in many people which can drive you batty, but I don't think it would make you cry.
So you are not weird, just more sensitive to the usual effects of B vitamins

It could be a straight allergy. My Mom (Lymie) is allergic to bananas - they make her cry uncontrollably, too. Some allergies are just weird like that.
The only B-vitamins she can take are Country Life's Coenzyme B Complex. Anything else gives her weird sensations (like "my spine feels like it's about six inches behind my body").
Have you ever had the Life Water before? Could it be something else in it that's the problem for you?

Hi all, Thanks so much for your replies of insight. I greatly appreciate it.
Mikken, Life Water is just a SoBe product of flavored water. It has fructose and flavorings in it. I know it is the B vitamins in it that I have reacted to.
I don't normally take B supplements because I have had this problem for many years.
Just a side note to it all: When my mother was trying to get pregnant back in the 40's she couldn't. Her doctor said her blood pressure was too low and started giving her B-12 shots as well as a product called Iberol which was a horse pill of B supplement.
She continued the shots and the supplements after she conceived me and took the Iberol for many years afterwards. She was high strung and emotional while she was pregnant with me.
I was breast fed as well so I wonder if I got an overload somehow and have a toxic reaction to B supplements.
That is what I have always thought caused my bad reaction to the B's.

I used to think that I could not take B vitamins either. I'll bet I've tried 20 different brands and types. I would get absolutely ``wired'', very similar to drinking tons of coffee. I couldn't THINK with so much going on in my mind, and therefore could not function well at all. I was testy and sensitive to emotions. And if I added any caffeine, it was that much worse.
Only two B complex vitamins worked for me, and gave me energy instead of the jitters.
One is the Daily Energy B Complex made by Enzymatic Therapy, and part of the Fatigued to Fantastic supplements created by Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, a well-known Fibromyalgia doc. Cost is under $4 at Vitacost or Swanson, and about $9 for a month's supply if you buy it at full retail.
The other one that worked for me was very expensive and didn't work any better than what I listed above.
All B vitamins and B complexes are NOT created equal.

Hi there!
I used to feel awful after taking B-12. I never figured out why. This is the only one that I found that works for me:
Nutraceutical Solutions Inc. Sublingual B-Total
B-Complex Vitamins are factors in providing energy by converting carbohydrates to glucose. The B-Complex vitamins are water-soluble and used by the body daily but not stored.
Suggested Use: Shake well before use. As a dietary supplement, in the morning, place one full dropper (1.0cc) under your tongue and hold for 30 seconds, then swallow. In addition, use under periods of stress or prior to physical activity, if needed.
Notice: Because Niacin dilates the surface capillaries, it may cause flushing, itching, and reddening of the skin. The effect is temporary and will gradually disappear.
The B vitamins need to be taken together to work properly. Sometimes if I feel really cold, I'll take an extra dose and still get no ill-effects.
The other thing I noticed was FRUCTOSE. Bb loves fructose!
Now for my bizarre hypothesis:
I read up on the B vitamins this AM and the signs of deficiencies of them are very similar to a lot of the symtoms of Lyme.
In my family there is a genetic tendancy to lack the intrinsic factor necessary to utilize B-12 through the gut. We must take it sublingually, in order to realize any benefit.
Is it possible that Bb also loves B vitamins, and therefore has a field day if we ingest them and they are in the gut "up for grabs"?
B-complex pills used to make me absolutely exhausted and I could not take them. Is it possible that maybe you may lack intrinsic factor, as well? Perhaps the combo of the fructose & B vitamins is Bb food in your belly?
The only other thing I came up with in my studies is that niacin supplements may elevate blood sugar levels and should be used with caution by people suffering from diabetes, glaucoma, gout, liver disease or peptic ulcers.
I don't know if any of this helps, but I tried.
I hope you feel better! Ali

Wow... LOTS of detailed and good responses!

Dr D. strongly discourages his patients from taking B or C vitamins. He says they "feed the Lyme". He says we will get enough nutrients if we eat a healthy diet. I am following his advice and am getting better. Several other Dr. D. patients have told me they were reluctant to give up supplements but finally did and actually felt better.
Vitamin supplements of all sorts have always made me feel worse.Nauseous, less energy, not quite right feeling. It is likely I've had Lyme my whole life so perhaps Dr. D. is on to something. hats

Hi everybody! Great responses and I thank you all. Food for thought here. I know I am not anemic (had all that tested). It's not that I WANT to take B supplements, I am just curious about why I have such a reaction to them. I don't react to the vitamins that are in food.
Hats: Vit C????? Why does C feed the Lyme? I DO take C supplements along with CQ10 and Acidopholus.
Thanks!

hats,
I have an amino acid deficiency. Because of that, my body doesn't properly digest food. So I can't get nutrients from a healthy diet.
My energy is much higher now that I'm taking the supplements.

I was allergic to yeast and therefore most B vitamins. I now take a synthetic B Vitamin (multi, really) with the brand name of Freeda. (I'm usually more of the organic, wholistic type although I am on abx.)
If you try the Freeda and don't react to it, I would seriously consider getting food and mold allergy blood testing done.
