Does anyone have a solution for those awful 3 in the morning calf and foot cramps that come on suddenly??? Magnesium hasn't gotten rid of them for me. If you have something that worked , Please let me know. I am getting desperate.

An RN told me to put a bar of soap at the foot of my bed, between the sheets.

I forgot about it until you posted this! Maybe we should both try it!! [Razz]

HEY!!! I resemble that!! [rant]

I've already tried the calcium/mag at high levels. I occasionally get the leg cramps, but my biggest beef now is hand and foot cramps during the day.

My magnesium was doubled to 1000mg per day, plus bananas-which I like fortunately.I was also told to do some easy stretching exercizes before bedtime.

I had nightime calf cramps that hurt into the next day-but knock on wood they have gotten better.

What brand of soap? Irish Spring?
Zest? to add pep to your step?

Ivory? so you wouldn't have to walk-you could float?

FelsNapha? probably best for Lymetoo-it's the strongest.

Lifeboy ? for Tincup.

Dial? for LMT because she's neurotic about toxins.

I'll try Dove-Dove chocolate on my pillow for sweet dreams and Dove soap at my feet so I won't have to change the sheets so often.

Actually Irish Spring sounds good to me. I could use a vacation.

E-Lyte mixed in water and/or BodyBio liquid minerals have both helped me. Takes a while. Also, Farah's essential oils rubbed into calves before going to bed. Massage therapy helps too.

Magnesium.

I also switched to wearing sneakers as much as possible.

Keep legs warm...knee socks?

Sea salt, drink plenty of water,Magnesium Malate with Malic Acid by Source Naturals (formula made for people with 'Fibromyalgia'. These all help me.

I need to take that more often. I have some of that EnerG electrolyte stuff here.

Cobweb...I was told not to use Ivory...too pure. {???} Beats me!?

I forgot to try the soap last night. Did you, pegee??

I take more than 2000mg of mag and 4000 of calcium. [if if read that right!?]

My problem is most likely lack of absorption, due in part to the celiac thingy.

We've been having a chat on the CaliforniaLyme yahoo group about the soap in the sheets approach for restless legs syndrome. It started with many of us remembering an article in Dr. Gott's newspaper column about the theory.

I had googled it and some websites said that Dove and Dial do not work. I couldn't find any reference to Ivory (I'm too chemically sensitive to try any highly fragrances soap)although I've heard it doesn't work with Ivory.

I want to try it one of these days to see if it helps myoclonic jerking and twitching (I don't have restless legs but lots of other torso/arm movement).

By the way, I know people who use quinine (tonic water) for restless legs - don't know about the cramping.

Gee, between wearing Podi Patches on my feet, then putting soap in my bed, nighttime is becoming more bizarre all the time!

Pegee - it's not a quick solution, but my doctor started me on Nattokinase to help reduce muscle stiffness and pain. He said it is worsened by thick fibrins which are loosened by the Nattokinase.

Be aware that Nattokinase is a blood thinner, so you shouldn't use it without consulting with a doctor. My doctor recommended Allergy Research Group's.

Jill - My motor tics which really decreased since starting amino acid supplements and B-12/Folic Acid. I'm guiessing it was the B-12/Folic Acid that did it. But, since I'm Amino Acid deficient, I couldn't process the B-12 without them.

Some good suggestions. I am also trying to cut out sugar from my diet(not easy) and caffeine past 6 pm. I have found those make it worse. I did forget to try the soap. What if I just rub my sheets with soap?? What could possibly be in soap to stop leg cramps??? This really needs more research. Don't you think?

Hey pegee...I forgot to try the soap too.

Sizzled mentioned warm knee socks. My dad used to get bad leg cramps and as long as he wore those knee socks, all was well.

Also, thanks to Aniek, I'm now making sure I take my second dosage of lumbrokinase. I am really bad about not getting in the afternoon dosage.

That may make a difference.

I use a product called "Leg Cramps". It's made by Hyland's and you can get caplets, body cream and homeopathic (dissolve under your tongue) tablets.

My husband and I both use it. It works quite well for us.
