Hi,
My daughter and I have been taking factive for a couple of months. It's been a big help to us so far, without some of the nastier side effects we had with levaquin.
Good luck!

Hi Dee,
About herxing on Factive. I think the only thing that I really notice that seems to be a herx--as opposed to a side effect--is pain on the soles of my feet and sometimes increased irritability.

Overall factive makes me feel better (knock on wood) And my daughter too. My main symptoms with Bart are mental and emotional and Factive really helps me with that. My daughter had a lot of pain and stomach symptoms and she's doing much better on Factive.

About levaquin--it also helped, but when my achilles tendon got painful I had to quit. My daughter had terrible pains in her hands

We have less aches and pains with Factive than with Levaquin so far--but both Levaquin and Factive seem to make it harder to get to sleep.

Good luck Dee.
I hope it goes well for you.

hi rosabud, thanks again for responding, i was wondering did you have sore soles before starting the factive? mostly because i have had painful heels for quite a while now. they mostly hurt after i've been on my feet for any length of time. is this the same type of pain for you?

also could you describe the pains from the levaquin, like sharp pain, ache etc. i ask because i took 4 days of levaquin a couple of months ago and had some pretty strong sharp pains in my left arm that came and went, it really hurt.

glad to hear that the favtive is helping you and your daughter, that's encouraging. was your bart a clinical diagnosis? or did you test pos for it?

i definately think i have it even though my tests have bben neg. anyway thank you again,

praying you and your daughter continue to get better, Dee

Factive is an excellent antibiotic for Bart and Myco. It also appears to have good activity against lyme which is not typical of floroquinlones. Stick with it but watch out for rashes.

My LLMD and I have chatted briefly about Factive for Bart because I'm very symptomatic - but had to quit Levaquin due to Achilles Tendon pain.

Is a rash something that is common with Factive? How does one know it's not an allergic reaction or actually a Bartonella rash?

By the way, I never had sore soles or heels until I began Bartonella treatment, now I have them all the time. It's like the treatment kicked Bartonella out of hiding and made my symptoms worse - but I had to abandon treatment too early.

Thanks for any info you have.

An allergic rash is different than one due to lyme or bart. Allergic rashes like I had from Factive were hives covering my entire body, and swollen lips!

It took two weeks to get rid of it. I also had severe indigestion before the rash showed. Lyme rashes usually do not cover the entire body I believe.

Hi Dee and all,

Dee--about pains on Levaquin. Sorry, I don't know if they were sharp exactly. What I remember is that they were bad enough that I needed pain killers. But I pushed through it okay until my achilles tendon started hurting enough to wake me up at night. I was afraid to go on with Levaquin after that.

I don't know if other people get muscle and tendon pains on Factive like they do on Levaquin. But so far this has been much better for us without that particular side effect.

I think what most people worry about with Factive is the rash.

I did not test positive for Bart. The doctor thought I might have it when I told him about my emotional--mental difficulties and specific aches and pains. My daughter however had especially high titres.

We both feel a lot better after starting Factive. For my daughter it's really a miracle-- For years her diet was very restricted and there was a time when she could barely digest baby food and now she's eating normally!

I hope this helps,

Rosabud
