I have just tested positive for Lyme, Babesia, Ehrlicia (probably spelled wrong) and borderline Bartonella.

Anyone else in this situation?? I am scared...

Please advise.

Hi, Sarah,

I'm really glad you found your way to this board, but I'm sorry you're having to deal with all this. I know how scary it can be, but at least here, you'll find people who know, first-hand, what you're going through.

In my case, I was diagnosed a year ago last June with Lyme, Bartonella and Babesia. And like you, I was pretty scared, too.

For me, the key to treatment was finding a good Lyme-literate doctor (around here, we call them LLMDs). Mine was able to balance antibiotics and supplements to address each thing.

Interestingly, over my year+ of treatment, Sarah, symptoms of the different co-infections would surface at different times, though there were periods when I was definitely dealing with symptoms of all three to some extent.

By the way, I'm on different antibiotics for all three of my infections.

While I'm not completely "cured," I'm at about 75%, which is so much better than when I was first diagnosed.

Hopefully, you're in the care of a doctor experienced in treating tick-borne diseases. It also helps for you to be as knowledgable as possible. I'd suggest reading Dr. B's guidelines to treatment. I think they're available here in the library.

The good news about your situation is that you actually know what's wrong. So many doctors don't even know to test for co-infections, which, in my case anyway, would have made recovery almost impossible.

Andie

You've got good company around this place!

Sorry to hear the news, but at least you now know what to treat.

Thanks for the support and quick replies.

I do have an LLMD and have been on Biaxin. Since the co-infection results just came back they are switching me to Zithromax, then adding Mepron and then Minicyclin (spelled wrong).

I will introduce each gradually to make sure I don't have a major reaction to the meds.

"Ditto"

It seems as though not having co-infections is more unusual around here. [Frown] No matter how odd you might think a problem is, I'm sure you'll find others who've been through it here.

So far I know I have Lyme & Babesiosis, I suspect maybe Bart, too. I'll know more at my follow up on 10/6.

You're in good company. The folks here seem to have a way of making things seem less scary. [Big Grin]

I'm glad your LLMD is on top of things. You're definitely on the right path!

Good Luck!
[Smile]
Ali

Over the years I have tested positive for lyme first in 2002. Later in that year they found Bartonella. In 2004 they found the lyme again in a stomach tissue sample and the mycoplasma also. I finally went to Dr. B last year because I wasn't getting better. He found the Babesia in me. I beleive that has been what is really preventing me from getting somewhat better. I am still struggling with it. I think it's so important to attack that first and also the Erchlicia because both can cause really bad sweats and fevers. Good luck.

Sarah,

You've got a great advantage finding this out in the beginning.

With a good LLMD, you can get treated correctly right from the start [Smile]
