I'm wondering if what I am experiencing is anxiety. I've had anxiety issues in the past with different symptoms...and the issues surrounding that round of anxiety don't exist anymore. So...

I'll try to explain my symptoms...there's no pain or actual shortness of breath. I can take deep breaths without any problem but I find myself taking very deep breaths and blowing out slowly. My chest feels sort of tight, but again, no pain or anything.

This usually happens when I'm walking. Physically my legs are working fine so it's not difficult to walk. Walking up an incline is noticeably worse but not painful.

I've thought that it was too much exertion when walking, but now I'm wondering if it's some kind of anxiety except that I'm not upset or worried about anything! (Or at least I don't think I am.)

Has anyone else had this happen? I had this before starting treatment and it has gotten better but it really bothered me today when I went shopping. I ended up walking so slow that senior citizens with walkers were flying past me!! [Wink]

minimus - that's what I was thinking! I'm just trying to figure out what is the cause of this weird feeling and someone suggested anxiety attacks...except I don't feel particularly anxious.

I did have anxiety attacks when I was on Celebrex last winter...turns out it was a side effect of the drug. I wasn't having anxious feelings then either but the drug created the symptoms of anxiety attacks. I don't think I'm on any drug right now that could cause this...and I've felt this heaviness off an on for the past few months.

Thanks for any insight anyone can offer!!!

Karen

I wonder if the feeling of anxiety could be from a reduction in oxygen in our tissues due to tick-borne disease bug impacts?

Sounds like air hunger to me. This comes with Babesia. Not asthma, but feels like regular breath is not meeting need.

I kept thinking I was just "out of breath" from going up stairs etc. But even talking on the phone was hard at times as I would get a bit winded. During touch patches it got challenging to eat.

I think that any trouble breathing is definitely anxiety producing-obviously is trouble is servere, but creeping up on you type anxiety when trouble is more subtle and you aren't sure if something or what something is amiss.

Seems to rear up with increased pollen. Sometimes an inhaler would help a bit. It comes and goes, but is a lot better as I recover.

Best Wishes,

Char

This was a huge symptom for me in the beginning. It has significantly reduced after 2 years of treatment, but still can catch me when I'm least expecting it.

My GP used to say I was anxious (couldn't breathe, legs could not lift or carry me around the house, forget stairs...and always when I got near crowds, a long conversation, too much noise, etc.)

I always got so MAD at him for thinking I am making this up.

He explained it as...this type of anxiety is nothing you can control. Your brain is not receiving enough oxygen, it gets scared, heart rate goes up...etc....

So sometimes the terminology gets in the way of understanding. It took me 2 years to finally figure out he was NOT making light of my problems.

Now, other people might say I get anxious, but they sure do mean it the other way. Makes me want to sock them...but I have learned to smile and ignore their comments.

What a horrible disease this is.
