This is the only place I know to turn and I thank everyone for their continuing support of issues we all face.

I have been on IV Rocephin for almost 3 months now....at first I felt better but it's been a constant downslide for the last 3 weeks or so.

All of my neuro symptoms are back, the pain is back and I'm so depressed my doc even put me on Welbutrin. It hasn't helped.

I want to ask the doc to remove the picc line and stop the Rocephin. I just can't see filling my heart with these meds if the results aren't showing up. [Frown]

Also, there is the psychological aspect of this thing in my arm, the itching, the infusing, the problems in everyday life.....like showering, dressing, rashes, sleeping, not being able to lift things, weight gain, etc.

I just can't take this anymore!

If I go off of the Rocephin, what would be my next recourse? Oral ABX?

I'm just hitting rock bottom and want this thing out of me right now. [loco]

Could this be a herx?

Hi!

I feel your pain. Today my nurse is coming back. She was just here yesterday. I now have a rash that is spreading. It is about 1/2 inch from the picc line hole.

I also am feeling burnt out. I am close to 56 days, and am also thinking out pulling this line.

Also fighting an appeal with insurance comp. I think some of my sypmtoms are side effects from rocephin. Especially depression.

My llmd will probably do bicillin shot. I just read a post about them. Majority of the people are having success.

Let me know what you decide to do.

I understand what you are going through! Although I'm feeling better from the Rocephin, I am ready for the PICC line to be pulled. I think I'm favoring that arm too much and causing other issues. It's a pain (pun intended) when it comes to sleeping, showering, etc. Even just hugging my rambunctious 9 year old is dangerous at times!

I would think after 3 months that if you're not feeling better, then perhaps it's time to try another abx. After awhile, your body becomes immune to it. Maybe that's what has happened with you.

Have a heart to heart with the doc and see what he/she says. If you're not feeling better and are actually getting worse, then the treatment needs to be modified. And the doc won't know if you don't talk about it!!!

Good luck!
Karen

deciding to go off IV should be something that you and your LLMD discuss at length. I cant tell you what to do. It is a VERY hard decision. My OPINION is that you should stick it out if your body is handling things okay (relatively speaking) and there is no infection.

HOWEVER---your emotional state is nothing to take lightly. If you cant do this, you cant do this. Dont beat yourself up over it. Many of us cant handle the IV meds for all sorts of reasons.

If you go off IV yes---orals are next and they can be VERY helpful in follow up from IV. Flagyl should be added somewhere to break up the cystic form of Bb because IV rocephin tends to make the Bb go deep and hide in the cyst form.

I am so sorry things are not looking so good rightnow, but it might be just a small bump in the long road to success.

Discuss with your doctor your options.
best regards for whatever you choose!

I have been on IV Rocephin for six weeks now. I attributed the emotionalism to Flagyl. Is Rocephin known for causing depression?

I can sympathise with wanting it to come out. It does itch and if something jars the line too close to where it goes in, it's just creepy!!

I have been having trouble with shoulder pain when I try to sleep. Is this something associated with IV treatment? It really makes sleeping difficult to impossible.

Cheryll

I am also about six weeks into treatment.

I feel achey -- achier than before -- and I tire out faster.

But in the long run this rocephin is fabulous for my neuro symptoms.

My daughter is having a rough time like some of you. I think her bacterial load is just so high.

I think any and all of the abx can cause strange moodiness, depression, emotional lability. As they work and kill bugs, and the bugs die off, it's part of the herx.

Flagyl caused a huge 2 week depression in me. I pulse it now because of this and other negative side effects. When I see my LLMD, I am asking to change to tinidazole.

Thanks for all of the replies. [Smile]

I did kind of just freak today and wanted to rip the picc out myself. [Eek!]

I called the doc and she wants to see me before we decide. So I'll likely stay on the IV for at least another week.

I also remembered how hard I had to work to get the picc line in the first place. I should try to ride it out as long as I can.

But I'm thinking it will come out soon.

I just need a Plan B for when it's out in terms of best orals and herbs to work with.

You all are wonderful! Thanks again. You gave me a moment to breathe and consider my options.

Hey IV buddies,
TTPH, I am so sad you are hitting the wall here. I am about 6 weeks into IV and it is a wild ride.

I think it did take my healing to a new level. I have more energy...but I find the neurological symptoms are worrysome. Especially the groin and leg pain, back pain and jaw.

I wonder if this is adverse effects of the rocephin or herxing. But based on the studies, I really want to stay on for 3 months if my doc will let me...I feel like the more cycles I can beat the bugs down in my brain the better.

One thing that helped is a new regimine I tarted two weeks ago for yeast. I take "candex" and garlic and caprylic acid.

I also doubled the acidophilis. My stomach feels so much better. Much less nausea.

Keep us updated on what you do with your line--you will get better no matter what you decide...

This is a decision for you and your doctor to make. It did take 4 1/2 MONTHS of IV rocephin before I felt significant improvement.
