All Lymenet folks.....

please be advised....

Do not open any unrecognized emails....

especially with weird or inviting or whatever odd subject matter.

There is some speculation that a troll is sending a trojan horse type virus around.

So, how do you get rid of an e-mail without clicking on it (and therefore, opening it)?

I have been wrestling w/ my confuser for two days now. Running slow slow. Found some cookies that were bad, but no virus so far.

I have anti-virus, firewalls, blockers, etc and on and on.

About this speculation, how would a troll get our email addresses? (And OT ... don't people have better things to do w/ their darn time?)

If you have you email not public, and only give it out to a few, it would seem unlikely to come from this site. Right?

Wish ya'll would elaborate a little if this is a real threat ... please? PM me?

I have anti-virus and firewall also etc. You can still get a virus, even from a website.

I think I have had one because about 10 days ago I got a Norton 'warning' that there was a virus detected and 'fixed'..........However, since then I have scanned and rescanned, done live update, etc. and I keep getting now into my email messages that there was a message delivery failure.........so, something got into my email, I think, and mailed people which is why I am now getting those messages, even though my computer is now virus free.

How can I stop those 'message failure of delivery' emails I now get?

DLL,

I have been getting a few of those "message delivery failure" notices as well. That is what started my questioning that "something" has gotten into my confuser.

I downloaded SpywareBlaster (freeware on download.com) yesterday and updated EVERYTHING, MS criticals ... which by the way, recently had a glitch in their automatic updates, and there are a couple other programs I'm considering.

I guess my question is ... is this a very general i.e. all over internet, or is it really linked somehow specifically to this site?

I'm pretty sure that one Lyme site I visited long ago was infected ... found trojans after visiting it, got rid of it, visited again, got same trojan.

I guess I'll go get even more protection type stuff. But some of the software makes you feel like you need to be an IT professional to use w/o crashng your system accidentally.

Good grief ....

H

Edit ... Cave, that is what I thought too, about opening attachments. But maybe that is not the case anymore, as in, all you have to do is open the email?

I think viruses have gotten sophisticated enough that all you have to do is visit the wrong internet site to get infected...

Obviously opening an email attachment from unknown sources is asking for trouble, so don't ... just click delete by the email without opening it.

I've been having mail-trouble, too -- but interestingly enough it is with my yahoo account, which is web-based... so I doubt a virus on my computer would do that.. then again, I'm a computer dummy.

Never doubt that trolls and such have an infinite amount of time on their hands to monkey with folks like us.

I assume that Norton would remove a Trojan as well as viruses, is that right, or is a Trojan a totally different thing, if so, how do you remove it?

Just wanted to add that Lavasoft's Adaware (free) catches some things that Norton security suite misses, esp tracking cookies. And so far, I'm liking Spyware Blaster (also free) ... it doesn't clean, just a preventative.

I don't know how things work in Outlook (because this stupid computer won't let Outlook work properly), but in my Earthlink mailbox, you have to click on or "highlight" a message before you can opt to delete it.

Now, if we are talking about attachments, that's a different matter......
