I have my initial consult with the nurse practioner at the LLMD office on Oct. 24th. Now, I have developed a raging bladder infection, so my GP has put me on an antibiotic (Sulfamethoxazole with trimethoprim) for 1 week. Will this antibiotic invalidate any diagnostic testing that I may have through my LLMD's office? Thanks for any help you can give.

Heatherkiss-that looks just like my "Coal" , rescued from the hills of West Virginia.
Lou1234- I had chronic UTI's the year preceeding my LLMD appointment and lots of Cipro, Macbrid, and Bactrim- and I still tested positive for Lyme.
Now I am taking three doubled doesed antibiotcs concurrently-and I still get a lyme rash once a month ! Have no idea how it would test out though.
Carol B- PS We were just at the office today seeing her. Let me know how it goes for you.

Hi Lou.
Your LLMD might want you to wait on testing till you've finished your ABX, or he may say "Go ahead and test."
IGeneX would ideally like you to be clear of ABX for around 10 days or so for the most accurate results. However, they realize not everyone is willing to wait on treatment in order to get a stronger test result.
Even if you test IgM negative because of the course of abx you're on, you will most likely show some significant bands on your IgG which will be meaningful to your doctor.
And there's certainly a good chance since you already had lyme, depending on your bacterial load, that you'll test positive even while ON antibiotics.
I think your doc is going to probably diagnose you clinically and start you on antibiotics and test you. But that's just a guess, and I'm not a doctor.
Unlike "ducks," most LLMD's are experienced enough to diagnose clinically and don't wait around for test results to tell them what they already know.
