I have been using DMSA for the past month. I have developed mild neutropenia from it. My first CBC test showed my WBC at 3.7, which, is not that bad because 3.8 to 10.8 is "normal". My neutrophils were 2057 which was fine.

However, i had another test done 3 weeks later to see if my WBC changed. Well my WBC are now 2.8 and my neutrophils are 1266. The neutrophils range is 1500-7800.

I was only taking 25mg of DMSA every 4 hours, 4 days on, 3 days off.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Its very important to have a CBC done if you are chelating to make sure you are not hurting yourself.

Before i had the challenge test and chelation, my WBC were 5.8 and my neutrophils were 3625. Those results are from 4 months ago. So, i have taken a major hit.

Jordan,
I'm chelating with DMSA also and just got results of my bloodwork today. The WBC is 4.2.

They wrote a note for me to increase my fluid intake and get checked again in 3 weeks. I have a call in to the Dr to get more info. Hope you're doing this with a physician!

Karen,

Yes i am working with a doctor. I am feeling very down about this. I was feeling pretty good prior to the challenge test.

Lymetoo, Trails and Sandy,

Thanks so much for your support. I am beyond frustrated. This past month has been quite insane. Im not feeling too well this morning.

Hi Jordan,

I'm sorry you're experiencing problems with chelation. (i was in contact with you a few weeks ago about chelation & using DMSA if you remember??- I did the challenge test with v high dose DMSA & it killed me off for a few weeks)

My WBC & neutrophils also decreased lots after taking DMSA.
WBC went from 5.7 to 3.2
neutrophils from 3300 to 1500

I cant really offer any answers to why the WBC & neutrophils have decreased?? - just to say that happended to me too so i can only guess pulling the metals out is affecting our immune systems???

I hope you are feeling better soon. [Smile]

Liz,

Sure i remember you. How are you feeling? Did you start any chelation treatments yet?

I felt so terrible after that challenge test, i was very hesitant to start any type of treatment. However, once i started my treatment, i felt SO MUCH better.

Since then, i have kinda been all over the place.
I just want to quit it all together. But, i feel so much better on DMSA or DMPS.

Hi again Jordan,
That's great you're feeling better on DMSA [Smile] - that gives me some confidence to try it. i see you're only taking a small dose -25mg every 4 hrs - was this dose advised by your LLMD?

I've delayed starting chelation until i see DR H (Hyde Park, NY) in January. Hopefully he'll put me on a lower dose than the 2000mg i took for the challenge test!!! My current LLMD told me that i obviously suffered mercury posioning after the challenge test as it released too much mercury for my body to process so a lower dose of DMSA seems much more sensible.

Keep me posted on how you progress,

Liz
