I've never tested positive for Bart but continue to herx a lot on Levaquin. I'm coming up on 13 weeks on Levaquin and wondering whether I should switch drugs or continue as long as I continue to herx and can keep the herxes managable with other meds. Thus my question, has anyone been on Levaquin continuously for longer than 16 weeks?
I never thought I'd want to be on Levaquin longer!
Thanks, Denise

Denise, I have been on Levaquin on and off for 4 months. I also take Ceftin and sometimes feel too sick to take both, so I back off the Levaquin for a while. I do still herx strongly when I start up again, so I stay on it.Each time I feel a bit better. Cindy

Just passsing the three month point, and the herxing has finally let up. It was very challenging. Plans are for one more month to sweep up. I didn't test positive for bart, but symptoms suggested the possibility. The severe herxing, but symptom improvemnet seem to support the hunch.

I was on oral levaquin for 3 months & made good progress, then my LLMD (Dr B) stopped it but i relapsed with worsening of neuro symptoms so i'm now back on it & doing better.
DR B advised me to keep taking it for as long as i felt i needed it (he's had patients on it for up to year if necessary)
I hope this helps,
Liz

It's good to hear of folks improvement on Levaquin. I was hesitant for my son to take it due to the tendon issues, but we're giving it a try. He has a history of PCR confirmed Bart. and constant headache pain that hasn't gone away in almost five years... thankfully he's had improvement in other areas.
He began Levaquin last week and seems to be herxing - very achy, but no tendon pain. Wondering if others have been adding magnesium - heard that it might help prevent tendon issues? He's been supplementing daily.

I havent had any tendon trouble whilst on levaquin (i'm young aged 28)- i'm even running, swimming & exercising lots & causing me no problems.
i do take magnesium as IM injection twice per week which i find really helps with energy levels. not sure if it helps with preventing tendon trouble? but i believe the mag does strengthen muscles & tendons
Good luck with treatment for your son.
