I saw my first LLMD last Friday. She put me on 400mg of doxy and 250 flagyl, both daily.
My question is, how soon into the meds does the herxing start? And how long does it last....I'm guessing the answer is probably variable.
Also, so far, the main side affect I'm having (in addition to other symptoms I already had) is a killer headache. I'm assuming it's the ABX causing it.
Anyone else get a killer headache w/ ABX? I don't even know if I can take advil with this combo.
Thanks for listening....I kinda feel like a train ran over me this morning!

Susan,
A headache can be caused by a herx. In fact, I've been dealing with killer headaches since restarting Omnicef.
Advil should be ok, but I always suggest checking with your doctor and/or pharmacist first. In my experience, advil didn't really help herx headaches. Mine are still bad on Vicodin.
Herxes usually start for me about 24-48 hours after starting. But certaing meds, like Flagyl, caused herxes within a few hours.

I agree with lymetoo. If its too much to handle CUT BACK!
I started on VERY low doses and ramped up very slowly. I had killer headaches in the beginning on 50mg of Mino a week.
I'm on higher doses now and the headaches arn't nearly as bad. I may get a headache once a week now and it would be like a 2 instead of a 10 and daily.
I think its just a part of herxing and we all have to go through it.
BTW-- Asprin w/ codeine was the only thing that helped my headaches, luckily I live close to the Candian boarder (its over the counter there)
