Ok I really don't believe that I got bite by a tick and that is how I got this disease.

I think I got it from my husband. He hasn't been tested yet (next week) but I am sure he has it.

He has many of the same symptoms as me and some other weird ones. But he just isn't in as much pain from it yet.

He is a big hunter. Has a deer lease and goes on hunts in very HIGH RISK LYME areas. He has picked many ticks off of himself.

So here is my question, do you believe this disease is spread by sexual contact?

I have read doctors who believe it and doctors who do not. I am very curious if it is possible this is how I got infected.

What are your thoughts?

Well, the official answer is:

The jury is OUT.

You said it yourself: Some doctors say yes, some say no.

I don't believe there are any good studies yet on sexual transmission.

One reason that may be is that it's next to impossible to rule out the possibility that you MAY have been bitten without even knowing it. After all, about half the people with lyme have no recall of a bite. The tick that probably did it was the size of a period at the end of a sentence -- NOT the size of that tick you pulled off a dog some time or 'tother.

Anyway, I wish the best in treatment for you and hubby.

Syphillis (another spirochete) is sexually transmitted -- that is common knowledge. I can't remember the reference at the moment, but Bb spirochetes have been found in semen.... that is enough for me to think that the possibility exists that lyme is transmissible sexually.

Sexual transmissability of Lyme has been discussed numerous times in the past. Try a search and you should turn up lots of info and opinions -- on both sides of the debate.

All though sexual transmission may be debatable...

What is not in question is proximity...

You say he has taken ticks off of himself numerous times.
I will assume you live in the same house as your husband and do his laundry!?
Sleep in same bed?

He may not have gotten rid of all of the ticks that had crawled onto him or his clothes.

Given that some 70 percent of folks never see tick bite or tick or rash....you may have indeed been bitten and not even know when or where.

I belive it is sexually transmitted however in a lot of cases where family members are infected the reasons could be as simple as those suggested above.

Kim, if you didn't get my 19 pages of newbie links/advise, please send me a PM, 2 people standing together icon and ask for them ok.

Kim, as a newbie, it's best to be very SPECIFIC in your subject titles; example,

can lyme be sexually transmitted?

Now everyone KNOWS what you will be talking about here.

to do this, click on PENCIL to edit your topic title, and then paste my comments there in subject line. Hit SEND EDIT button, and it's changed!

If you don't find it later, it's gone on to the NEXT full screen; 450+ screens in medical!!

info: we have 100 active posters/readers daily; 1000 on weekends, and a total of 10,500 members.

So if you want answers, be specific on your topic titles, and you'll get lots of answers from folks who have answers.

Otherwise, they will SOB, SCROLL ON BY, without reading/answering.

We just do NOT have the time to read EACH entry.

So being specific, we can pick and chose on the LIMITED OF TIME on the board.

Thanks for understanding. Please do this in the fture each time as well as now to give you practice doing this. [Wink]

I know what a deer lease is. I wanted to know where her husband has been hunting. It might be exactly where I was blessed with Lyme. [Mad]

I never saw the tick that got me.

And I ditto Zman's conjecture-a tick could fall off your husband- wander aimlessly around the house or on the couch or bed and onto it's next unsuspecting victim.

I also ditto Michele's comment- the jury is still out.

Guys are whimps anyway- the real crazy ones don't even know they're crazy. [Eek!]

some of you probably don't want to deal with this question, but for those of you who aren't judgmental/homophobic:

anyone know about possible transmission of lyme (or, since there probably are ZERO studies about that, the related spirochete syphilis) between two women?

thanks.

thanks for responding cave.. and sorry about that, it's just that, well, i've gotten some, um, LESS than friendly feedback from folks on this board when i've come out as a lesbian.

unfortunately, not eveyone who struggles with serious adversity (including those who are or have been desperately ill with lyme) is accepting of those with life experiences/battles different from their own.

thanks again.

No matter which way you go, it's all bodily fluids.

Hasn't it been found in breast milk and saliva? Why wouldn't it be elsewhere in the body?

Just conjecturing....... [Smile]
