Hi all

I am new to this site and I have been sick for about 6 years , not knowing what was wrong, told by varing professional:

depression (yeh, I was tired allllll the time who wouldn't be depressed?),

just loose weight (yeh, I would exercise and be physically destroyed for days),

eat better (yeh, I had a very healthy diet but they wouldn't believe me because I was over weight?!).

My oldest daughter got a rash and was diagnosed positive from the lyme titer and I picked up the book "Healing Lyme" by Stephen Buhner and I read it for her but found that that I had almost all of the symptoms.

I have been doing his protocol for almost 4 weeks and have had an unusual side effect. I have lost my sense of taste for salt and sweet.

Have anyone had anything similar or is this possibly a Herx reaction?

I am so desperate to be better. God bless
Kathy

Hello Hopeful:

I have been doing Stephen Buhner's protocols for about 11 months now, and I have NOT experienced your symptoms.

It sounds strange to me.

You do not say IF you are just doing his "basic" protocol or have added other things also. Are you on antibiotics also? Any other supplements?

You might PM me as I don't come to this board much anymore. Karatelady PM'd me and let me know you had this problem and question. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have been here for a few days.

How MUCH of each herb are you taking each day?

Hi Hopeful,

You may want to pm someone in a thread with buhner protocol listed in the heading...

Or edit your heading to include buhner protocol so others that use this technique will answer...

My answering will bump you back to page one...

personally I have experienced this and sometimes I taste things incorrectly...it is linked more i think with lymes ability to screw with our senses.

Hi all--I have definitely experienced this, but more as a result of the Lymes, not of die off or because of a protocol I was on. This was one of my first sym[toms actually...

Good luck with it, in any case [Eek!] [Big Grin] [Wink]

Years ago when I was researching the topic of loss of smell, which is often associated with loss of taste, for a non-Lyme friend, a lack of zinc was often mentioned by nutritionists or alternative medicine practitioners.

However, I would be careful about supplementing with too much zinc without working with a knowledgeable practitioner.

Too little zinc can cause the immune system to be weak, but too much zinc can also harm the immune system.

And I remember from some of my reading about Lyme, there is a complicated interaction with zinc, copper, heavy metals, etc.

Anyway, you might just want to see if your multi-vitamin at least has some zinc in it to see if it helps. Most do.

I was told not to go over about 50 mg. of zinc a day - and this was during my pre-Lyme days but I had other health issues.

Take care,
Jill

Like I said Kathy, I have NOT experienced this at all. But then I take C-Salts from Nutrition Wholesale and it has some zinc in it, so THAT may be part of the reason for it.

I think the others are right in that I may be a Lyme thing, not a protocol thing. At least you are the first I have heard of that had that problem while on Buhner's protocol
