Kaiser permenente in fontana calif said they will not let me see an infectious disease specialist even though my regular md said I should see one. The reason was, they said it was denied because of it was probably a false positive from Igenex due to the refrence article in the new england medical journal. That was all they gave me. I have no idea what was said in this article. anyone heard of anything. It must be pretty bad that they can outright refuse to see me and base it on this article. I cant believe this. I will write the address in my next post and maybe everyone can write them a letter about how they are being treated and how there symptoms are and what you feel about them. It might help to change things. I dont know. Im so outraged its not even funny. I will see what I can do legally. Its pathetic with our heath care system in the united states. We really need some huge change. Till next time. any input???

I haven't seen the article, but I would put my money on it saying something in line with the IDSA guidelines.
Take heart, though. You wouldn't want to see an Infectious Disease duck anyway. They are worthless in most cases.
This is one reason I have not pushed my son to get tested. I'm sure I passed it along to him in utero, but he has Kaiser. I'll wait until he can get insurance at his new job, and hope it's a better option than the previous employer offered.

Hi -- there's no point in seeing an ID 'cause they're going along with the IDSA guidelines. You need to see an LLMD. Referrals thru www.lymediseaseassociation.org and this site.

Thanks everyone. I do see dr. Y here in so. caif. she is fantastic. She just wrote me an email stating that I should take some pregnonelone and I wrote her back about the letter and she wanted to ask me if it is okay to pass on my letter to Nick Harris director of the IgeneX lab. She said he would be interested in this and would probably look at my case himself and see what he could do. He just came back from the international conference about the lyme. So if he's back he would e-mail her back asap. He is real good at that. So well see. Yes, I agree about the Infectious Disease specialist. I probably would be more humiliated instead of being cared for. Im just glad I have someone that look out for me. I have some real bad days with the worse problem for me is the dizziness. I can tolerate the pain but the dizziness is hard to tolerate. I pray one day it will get better. God bless all! Terri

I think this has to do with Klempner's NIH study. He sent samples to IGeneX to test but they were so grossly mishandled before they were sent, intentionally in my opinion, that the results were not reliable. Of course, Klempner did not let on how they had been stored for a long time beforehand. The lab offered to retest samples that were correctly handled but Klempner refused.
It was a blatant and dishonest effort to discredit the lab so they could publish the results and get the lab to have a bad reputation.
This is despite the fact that all the sneak inspections they could arrange with their CDC buddies could not find anything wrong and all the state testing that is done for their certifications shows that they are a good lab.
But insurance companies are not known for their honesty and caring about patients, and will use any evidence, regardless of how crooked. That is what is happening with Kaiser. If they recognize all the positive results on lyme tests, they will have to treat people, just like the contract says.
A lot of people with Lyme have Kaiser trouble. Talk to support groups in your state. There is also an online group for CA lymies. They have posted all the certifications of the lab at that website.
