I have always been of the opinion that heavy metals play an important role in those of us with chronic illness.

It was good to hear both Dr. B and Dr. H and Dr. B. (another one) talk about the importance of investigating and addressing the heavy metals issue at the ILADS conference.

If you have not already discussed with your doctor, please do. A urine challenge test would be a good place to start.

Be well,
Scott

Scott, have you heard of antibody blood tests for metals that detect the immune response to metals? Metals mobilize in the tissues so standard blood levels may not be a fair representation.

How reliable are the urine & hair challenges for metals?

Scott,

I think a heavy metals challenge is on the cards for me at next visit. However, I am worried because it seems some people get pretty sick from that and take weeks to recover just from the test (and after the test there was no real treatment or follow up).

I also wonder about having it done while having silver fillings - doesn't that seem to defeat thepurpose, or what am I not getting?

I have heard of tests such as the MELIA test from melisa.org that can detect antibody response to metals. I have not personally done it but it is of interest.

I think urine challenge is the best option for metal testing. Hair can be useful, but I think the DMPS or DMSA challenge test with 6-24 hour urine collection is my preference.

It is a difficult area. I have worked on it for over a year and it is still an issue acccording to both the urine tests and ART testing. I am doing DMPS/ca-EDTA IVs with a host of other ingredients every other week for the next six months and then will see where I stand. The most recent test showed high aluminum and uranium.

I do not recommend doing the more extreme metal chelation programs without first having had all amalgams removed. That should be the first thing in my opinion.

I did my urine challenge tests from Doctor's Data.

Be well,
Scott

If you still have fillings, you can do a hair analysis. If nothing comes out in the hair, you know your body has tucked it away somewhere else besides what remains in the teeth

A doctor knowledgable in metal detox can tell from your mineral picture that is part of the hair test what your situation most likely is. It is a certain mineral picture that identifies heavy metal toxicity to a knowledgable doctor.

If he/she is not knowledgable in it, I would look for someone that is.

Anyone with a chronic disease and still with amalgams in their mouth --- all bets are off. My doctor would send you home and ask you to come back when you have done the necessary. Simply put, microbial infections, particularly Lyme Disease, cannot be cured without addressing the heavy metal and chemical toxicities.

I am glad that others are starting to come around and agree what Dr. K. has been preaching since the early eighties.

Take care.

We have no laboratory test today that will verify with certainty if you are heavy metal toxic. If your mineral balance in the body is off, the body cannot detox heavy metals. (Listen to the download on www.klinghardt.org)

There is no test available today that will tell how much metal is remaining in your body once you start being treated for metals.

If they are showing up, as Scott told above, that is the best sign. They are leaving. It will take several years. You would not live if the body were to unload all in a short time.

There is only ART testing (Direct Resonance Testing) that will identify energetically where the heavy metals are deposited in the body (brain stem, kidney, liver, prostate, etc. etc.) There is no other test that I am aware of that can tell you that. This testing can also determine the best medicines to use at any particular time. It takes different treatments for different areas. There is no "one med fits all".

We do not know how much is in these body parts.
If you are still sick, you can assume that you are also still heavy metal toxic.

We know that in today's world, heavy metal detoxification is an ongoing task once you finally get rid of the major loads that is part of your chronic disease, whatever the diagnosis.

When all symptoms are gone, you are free of heavy metals or have reduced them to a level where your body can cope. There is no distinction between Lyme symptoms and heavy metal symptoms, because the toxic metals are where the microbes are hanging out, and the microbes are hanging out where the toxic metals and dental toxins are.

When you do a hair test and have some results in hand, you can do a mild detox program for a few weeks, and say, six weeks later do another hair test. If you then show some metals, it will tell you whether you are moving in the right direction, and can then treat accordingly.

Take care.
