I am having a TERRIBLE flare or herx or yeast problem. Can you guys help me figure out which it might be?

I am on Rifampin and Cipro for bart. I have been on cipro for 3 months and added the rifampin at full dose 300mg bid on oct 9th. I just had my period 9 days ago and am on birth control pills, although they arent working so well with the rifampin.

I have an old injury and old lyme focal point that is my right shoulder. When I relapsed 2 years ago, this right shoulder tightened up and shot nerve pain--stinging painful zings down my arm. My shoulder blade feels like it has slipped out of place. My colar bone feels like it is covered in itchy insulation (crushed glass). My hand feels so very arthiritic and PAINFUL.

All these symptoms are not new to me and have passed before, but I havent had them in a LONG time and certainly not to this degree.

I went for months thinking this was a sports injury in 2004. Had MRI's, PT, x-rays, all sorts of tests, and everything was NORMAL but my pain was OUT OF CONTROL. I feel that I can assume this is the same sort of thing--I did nothing new physically. I just woke up and it was there 2 days ago and it has gotten worse and worse.

I am noticing some gastro difficulties (bloating, gurgling and some gas)lately and am concerned I have fallen behind on the yeast situation. I have started taking diflucan and upped the probiotics.

I am having all my symptoms flare right now--from brain fog to those awful pin prick sensations. So there is a general all over flare in symptoms, but this right arm thing---even when I have herxed in the last year I havent had THIS come back.

I am scared it is here to stay.

Would yeast cause this SPECIFIC right shoulder problem?

I think that this is a herx from the meds but probably agrevated because of the yeast overgrowth. Im not an MD but have had same symptoms.

I cut the dose down and slowly increased it and it whent away. The shoulder problems and the pricky pain with cold and hot spots.

I had this sensation with cats claw and also horrible anxiety attacks.

You also need major doses of probiotics. I use PB-8 and Bio-K+ which is liquid and I have done fantastic on this product.

HOpe you get well and remember think possitive and IT WILL PASS! something for anxiety which is natural and FANTASTIC is rescue remedy.
Try it!
I feel most lyme patients are some what stressed because lyme treatment is stressful and so it the attack on your system by the bacteria. Good luck and hope you feel better soon. Terri

Hi all--I"ve had arthritis from both candida and Lyme's. I'm with everyone here about sticking to a good candida diet while upping your probiotics and lowering your dosage for a while till your body can clear out the toxins released by them.

Hopefully you'll be feeling better very soon,

Sounds like the shoulder maybe back too slipt out and is now back in place but there is a muscle or nerve being pinched after it went in place and causeing the itchy crushed glass feeling also yeast can cause alot of the same sort of symptoms ie bloating itchy etc. But I know lyme causes swelling inflamation then there can be a very quick loss of air and fluid drop at the same time in joints and spine alos thats why we have so many joint problems and back pain.

I know with me after a bout with the herx coming on {{I have joint pain tight all over}}and continueing then when the herx is over {{I have lots of looseness in joints and cracking alot because after fluid leaves {from inflamation}I get air build up and lots of cracking and it takes a while for everything to settle back in pplace.

Best I can tell you is discuss it with LLMD and take ibuprphen for inflamation and pain killer for pain and as the inflamation leaves stretch a lot and remember when relaxing to keep supported so say shoulder dosent pop in & out.Or back

Trails,

WOW, i had almost the same exact symptoms last week. My right shoulder felt like it was detached.....i also have had this symptom come and go for years (so not sure if it is yeast or lyme)

my neck was so bad, it felt like too bones rubbing together...and driving in a car, going over the bumps.......YIKES. i had to wrap a fleece blanket around my neck to support it...and could barely sleep laying down.

only thing i did different was take diflucan and valtrex....so i dunno. It also was my normal herx time.

Have you tried icing the neck and shoulder. Ice really helped me get thru it.

Hang in there buddy.

Looks like we are on that same river again...huh?

Also remember Diflucan can target lyme too.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!
[bow]

This morning is A TINY bit better. I slept like a log and woke up with bloodshot eyes even after 11 hours of sleep! I am needing it BIG TIME.

I take PB-8 and Theralac and some cheaper form of probiotics regularly. But I think I ate too many carbs when we had company last week. and then I got a sweet craving --that is my own personal signal---if I want sugar it means i have a yeast overgrowth.

I am glad to know the shoulder is mostly a herx. flarey, thing and not a yeasty thing. But there is also the concern of floroquinalones--CIPRO--causing tendonitis....hmmm....

have put in an email to LLMD.

Tree---my shoulder is not ACTUALLY slipped out--it just FEELS that way---PT told me years ago that this was a nerve problem--sending signals to my brain that were not true. It does pop alot and I LOVE to press my back and shoulder blade against a hard wall to press the shoulder blade back in to where it FEELS like it should be.

will update as the day wears on....

PS---there is a chance my hormones are completely whacked out and causing a herx--the rifampin has really done a number on my hormone pills and I cant tell where I am in my cycle or anything--been having bad pelvic pain for the same amount of days that the shoulder hasbeen bothering me---def a connection.

sorry so long!
thanks again everyone!

Hi Trails,
Glad you are feeling a bit better. What does your tongue look like when you first get up in the morning?

After 3+ years of tx, I have noticed a definite pattern. When I herx due to yeast, I wake up with a tongue that looks like I put a teaspoon of plain yogurt on it and forgot to swallow. The more white coating on the tongue, the worst the yeast herx. (A thin white coating that you can see through is normal).

I alternate Samento with Cumanda, and only have this problem while on Cumanda, which is a major yeast killer (Samento is not). The problem is dose dependent too, making me even more sure it's yeast.

In addition, my former holistic doc had me on a homeopathic antifungual called PleoAlb, which also caused the same thick, white coating on my tongue when yeasts were being killed.

Thanks klutzo! I have been monitoring this and I am ever so happy to report a very fine and PINK tongue! No white film at all. (knock on wood and guzzle some keifer)

I continue to feel a bit better today overall and my arm/shoulder is about 40% better! But it seems to get worse in the evening.....we'll see!

Trails,

Could it be your 4 week Lyme cycle flaring? That could be why it's all hitting at once.

If you don't realize, the hand pain is probably referred from the shoulder. Have you ever tried Flexeril? It's a muscle relaxer that was the only thing that kept my shoulder/hand pain under control.

thanks robi and aniek!

robi---thinking of you tons--do you prefer dark or milk chocolate for something I am preparing for ya....

aniek---yeah---I learned WAY too much about the nerves going from my neck to my finger tips---the hand is the shoulder--totally. Flexeril didnt do squat for me in the past, but maybe now it will help? Still, I have scripts for valium and ativan which both work well on the pain--just cant FUNCTION!

Hi Trails,

I have nothing to add
other than it will get better
rescue remedy does work wonders when I feel overwhelmed. Which is often. [kiss]

Hiya Trails,
Sorry about the shoulder, I feel your pain. This was one the first symptoms that let me know something was really wrong with me.

I was sitting in a movie and it felt like my shoulder slipped out of the socket. Couldn't get up to pop it back into place.

I'd like to echo what Tree said since he said it so much better than me. And so nice of him to describe me to a T.

I'd go with icing, advil if you can take it, and baby it as much as you can. Once the inflammation dies down perhaps the chiropractor for an adjustment (if you do such things) and it still feels wrong.

Got any muscle relaxers? They might ease it up a bit.

Bizarrely, I've had a flare of right shoulder/neck pain since this gastro thing started with me so maybe there's also a possibilty of yeasty beasties, gas, bloating or GI problems referring pain to the area and adding to the situation.

Anyway, I'm babbling and hope you wake up with it much improved in the morning. Does stretching or massage help at all?

Sending good shoulder wishes and a swift end to herxing...
true [kiss]
