not sure if this belongs in medical or general,
but my concern is, being that 3 children test positive, and they probabaly caught it from me in utero, I want to know how this is going to impact their future.
I am very concerned about them being able to get married and bear children one day.
can I hope for better than remission?
gotta admit, a little freaked out right now. thanks

My opinion is that it is like many childhood viruses. They can stop causing us illness, but they still live inside us. Chicken Pox for example can later lead to Shingles, etc.
I do not believe that the organism can be entirely erradicated but I do believe that people can get well and live productive lives. There are probably more asymptomatic carriers than symptomatic people. It is difficult to think about the possibility that we will always have the organism, but we don't always have to be "sick" as a result of it. Be well

difference is that chicken pox isn't passed on in utero. No one refrains from having children because they once had chicken pox.
I guess the better question is, it it possible to get it to a stage where it's no longer transferrable?

My heart definitely goes out to you. I was blessed in that I contracted lyme AFTER I had my children.
I've been ill five years but only newly diagnosed, so I'm only starting this battle.
A thought to ponder though, with this getting in such epidemic proportions and hopefully the LLADS will be able to stress their points,
but won't this HAVE to take a bigger priority to find better testing AND better treatment?
I thank God every day that this happened to me instead of one of my children, but isn't there any hope that when CDC, IDSA etc wake up, this is going to need attention faster than they are moving now?
I only mention this because I would have to hope that all these children with lyme aren't going to be able to continue to pass it on or this world is in for worse trouble than CDC could ever imagine.
Heck, it's already out of control as they turn their backs...as do most G.P.'s out there. I honestly have a hard time believing this could be going on in our country.
In any case, my prayers are with you and your children and I hope for the children of our countries sake that someone can wake up the majority of our medical world.

When planning to have children after tx for lyme, it might be worth considering to do so with the help of an llmd.
There are abx that are safe to take while pregnant. Taking these, as many have done, may reduce the risk of passing on the disease. Breast feeding is probably not a good idea as it is even riskier.
Also, many relapse after the stress of childbirth, so it may be a good idea to work with an llmd to prevent this from happening as well.
Best wishes.
