Hi everyone, i've been on minocycline 100mg twice a day for almost 2 weeks now. I started out not too bad, the first dose made me pretty dizzy, but for the next few days after that felt ok, unfortunatly it didn't last.

For the last few days i have been pretty dizzy, so much so that i can't drive, and i've been having these headaches which seem to get worse in the afternoon.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this and if it has eventually gone away and when did it go away?

maybe this is a herx, but i doesn't feel like my typical herxes, any input would be appeciated. dee

I had to back off and start slower because of the dizziness. I also asked for a prescription to help with the dizziness so they gave me Antivert which has helped.

The first time I took Mino was in the "early beginning" of my treatment which means after about 6 month. I started with only 100 mgs a day.

I got very dizzy from the start and after 10 days I had to give up because I got a headache from hell.

My LLMD always wanted me to go back on it but I was too scared. Only after another year he managed to convince me to take it again.

This time I could take 150 mg a day without any headache but again with getting dizzy. Since then I came back to Mino several times and I love it now. It really helps me a lot but the dizziness is always there. Hubby also gets dizzy from Mino.

I guess that the first time my bacterial load was still very high - therefore the headache.

For me Mino has been one of the best abx I've taken so far.

Hope it's getting better for you soon.

Yes, I agree with what everyone has said. They are symptoms of minocycline, I had both dizzyness and headache even starting at 50 mg 2X per day. I went up very slowly and everytime I increased my dose, I went through the symptoms again but they always subsided after a time. The amount of time it took to go away varied but in general, a few weeks sometimes a little longer.

I'm on a whopping dose now and have been since early Sept. and I am a bit unsteady on my feet at times but not really dizzy.

Be sure to eat something when you take your mino and drink plenty of water. Also, the probiotics are important.

Yup, dizzy and a whopper headache for me as well. I started at 100 mg 2x/day. Thought I would die. Slid down the door jamb onto the floor and stayed there until someone could help me to my feet.

After a few weeks of pulsing and trying to find what dose would work, my MD and I decided to cut back to 25 mg/day and work up to 200 slowly. I can skip days if need be and take my sweet time.

Why am I doing this and not throwing in the towel on Mino? For the first time in a while I am less cognitively impaired and the few good days I have are pretty awesome. I live for those days.

Bicillin gave me some excellent days. Unfortunately, my hips and buttocks got crunchy and scarred. So, I'll try to endure the Mino side effects for now. I like the benefits, despite the side effects.

Go forth and go slow!

I was so dizzy on mino that I couldn't even walk! My doctor took me off it immediately and put me on something else. I'm taking bicillin shots now and they seem to be the BEST!

wow, thank you all for your experiences! I picked up some meclizine at the local drug store, that seems to help some with the dizziness, haven't tried to get behind the wheel yet. I've been taking tylenol at least 2 times a day for the headaches, helps a little. If it doesn't get better soon maybe i'll cut the dose back, thanks again all! dee

I had dizziness and headaches ( I pretty much always have headaches but these were clearly a side effect) but it went away after a month.

Minocycline was a huge help in my cognitive function, and reduced my swelling and pain, so that I was joint pain free for the first time in my adult life.

I know it was the Mino because I had to go off it when it turned me gray after 4 months, and about a month later the pain and swelling returned.

I would try to stick it out, it might go away.

I cried UNCLE after a week on Minocycline-truly thought I was going to die. Stopped it without even telling the LLMD.

So for now I refuse-but I have to admit during that week I also had one hour's time when I felt the BEST I have felt, clear headed ,pain free, moving free-100% well -an hour of hope and a glimpse of what could be-still the going got too tough and I threw in the towel.
