Hi everyone,

I got 4 days of IV Rocephin last week while in

the hospital and started oral Ceftin this past

Tuesday after seeing the LLMD for the 1st time.

Last night I started having severe chills, knee

and elbow pain, rib pain and nausea. Sound like

a typical herx reaction already? I've been home

from work since last thursday. Wondering if I

should plan to stay home for awhile longer or if

most people have this reaction for a brief period

of time? I know my boss has been understanding

but really doesn't know what I'm going through.

Today, I feel like an eighteen wheeler ran me

over, twice ! I'm crying a lot but not sure why.

I'm trying to remain positive and not cave in. I

feel like my 42 years of "good living" is gone

right now and I desperately want it back. I've

been very healthy up until this year and this has,

slowly but surely, taken over my body and mind.

It does feel good to post this knowing there are

others out there that really do understand what

I'm going through.

Kelly

Gotta be a herx...I can tell because of that "eighteen wheeler syndrome!"

I usually had that or the FREIGHT TRAIN syndrome. Very similar diseases! [Big Grin]

Seriously, you don't know how long the herx will last. I do hope your LLMD believes in backing off the meds when a herx becomes too difficult to handle.

Slow and steady wins the race.

Lymetutu,

My LLMD didn't mention anything about backing off

the antibiotic when this happens. She did have me

start off on a lower dose for 2 days before

doubling the dose, maybe the herx is the reason

for that. I wasn't aware that they sometimes

back off for awhile if it gets too bad. I'm glad

you told me that. At least now I know if it

becomes unbearable, I can call her to see what

my options are. I have noticed my neuro symptoms

today are really pronounced, much more vision

difficulty, numbness and leg cramping. Not

knowing how long this will last, I think I need

to contact my employer. I know they are expecting

me to feel better, not worse. I hope they can

understand what this reaction is all about. Most

people, including myself, had never heard of it.

Hi Kelly--boy can I relate. I was just put back on IV rocephin and four days at 2gs is absolutely KILLING ME!!!

I went home on my break from work today, hooked myself to infuse and broke down crying so hard it took me 45 minutes to pull myself together enough to call work and let them know I'd be a little late! [Eek!]

I can barely write, speak, walk. I'm dizzy, exhausted, weepy, depressed. I can't get off the pot! I'm an absollute zombie mess--even I don't want to be around me.

I can honestly say I don't know how we function most of the time...

I can say though, that it DOES get better over time. I've been there before...It's never easy though is it?
