I just got back from the ER today,
the scariest thing happened.
I was fine all night and all of a sudden I felt real short of breath and could not speak

then I felt like I was suffocating and my exhaling problem got worse.[not a panic attack as i was calm--very random when it struck me]

I asked my mom to boil some hot steam with tea tree oil to open my lungs.

she did not make it in time.
I was already flat on the ground, pale as a ghost.
I could smell gas -- felt so weak like i would lose consciousness.
lost muscle strength
I was ice cold
cold wet hands
shaking like mad
could not walk
color of the room changes from bright to grey
I was sure i would just die soo soo scary.

I went to the ER and explained my ongoing sx of not being able to exhale and expand my lungs

My did arterial blood gas tests

the doc said they're ok but i want your input as they are a bit off
OK

pCO2 is 28 and has a big L
P02 is 96

So I have high amounts of 02 and little co2.
Is this a problem?

The doc said I was hyperventilating--BUT I Wasn't!!!! I was breathing normal at home when the incident happened.

So What can do this and is it bad to have low c02 levels????

My oxygen saturation test : it says High
0.98
Also my anion gap is hihg-- 0.16 what is that anyone know?

My base deficit is also High with 5 what is base deficit anyone know?>

How about-- Bicarbonate-- mine is low of 18. What is it?

My problem is exhaling--pushing my air out. My lungs don't stretch out and don't feel elastic.

Can this cause the low c02??
need support and prayers please.
Lynn

Lynn.....I'm so sorry to hear this and how scary.

My po2 level was 96 as well, that's not bad but usually I measure that number to my previous numbers which are 97 - 98 which is good.

I told you thru email I went to ER too...my chest xray was clear...did they do a chest xray?

I am coughing up mucus and my temp. was 99.8 Low grade for me - but doc said NO it's not....I'm usually 96.8 or lower and I never run a fever ...what was your temp?

Did they offer any other suggestions to you - like an inhaler - and or what did they say about the meds you are on? Can they have had a play - almost like an allergic reaction? Did you feel it might have been an allergic reaction?

This could be part of a herx as well...I know it doesn't feel good and it is scary - I know that feeling too.

As for the other numbers you talk about in your post I'm not sure what they mean, maybe someone else will.

So beyond sending you home what did he tell you to do?

Are you in lyme or coinfection treatment?

Are you on antibiotics for lyme or other coinfections?

Lyme and coinfections can cause these symptoms, so be aware of this, with the right treatment these breathing issues of yours should go away

if they are lyme or coinfection caused.

You may have other lung problems, but maybe not.

You dont say if you are on antibiotics, and if this could be a herx,

or you are NOT on antbiotics and you are getting worse from these infections.

I too have been up at Emergency for breathing issues and it is bloody scary, I know the feeling. I was up for a herx, a few times, because the herx was so severe... but did not know,

Sometimes it is tough to know, so to be on the safe side go up to emergency, a few times I was up because I was getting worse, and had to switch antibiotic treatments.

SO scary, I know. I have an inhaler now, Salbutomol, but it is not that effective, but it helps a wee bit, and even a wee bit of help,

can make you rest a little easier.

I am going through breathing issues now, and
was almost insane today was told to pulse anitbiotics, but cannot stop them for one day,
not sure what is going on,

I know the feeling, today I wanted to take my life, I felt like someone was holding a gun to my head, and I did not know all day if they were going to pull the trigger,

I know you have babesia. You already tested positive for it.

When can you get started on babesia meds?

Are you coming back down here or can the LLMD rx them via phone?

I think you need Mepron/Zith/Art.

I know you think this can't be a babesia symptom because it's on exhalation and not inhalation but no one's symptoms are textbook. I had babesia WA-1 very bad and never broke a sweat. Go figure.

You're also not very long into treatment for lyme and still on Bicillin injections and could be herxing as well.

Can you CALL your LLMD here in the states and ask what to do?

Can you FAX the test results plus a note describing your issues to him, and ask him urgently for guidance?

That's what you should do.

Sooner rather than later!

I have had lung issues prior to any abx treatments.

While on IV ceftriaxone I developed pneumonia/bronchitis symptoms yet the ducks could'nt quite agree on what it was...

Probably lyme/coinfection related...they pulled the ceftriaxone and put me on levaquin...

along with inhaler albuterol...

I had similar problems start up again the last time I had iv ceftriaxone and followed two months of that with clindamycin and lung issues resolved.

Just thought I would give you or your llmd a look into what happened to me...cuz I lived in same type area as you and our strains may be similar...

I also bet for babesia.

I had a very similar attack as you (but I was trying to catch more air, so trying to breathe faster and faster, maybe hyperventilating then), but the result was similar: shaking, lost of movements in the whole body, next to lose conciousness.

Since my babesia symptoms are gone, I never got these air hunger attacks anymore. I still herx on my lungs though, I feel a sort of lung pressure after herbs, but it has NOTHING to do with the awful air hunger I had when my babesia symptoms were in its highest.

And I could herx with 'air hunger' too, depending on what I was taking to kill babesia or lyme.

your blood gas panel is fine. I used to work in an ICU. Just breathing a little fast can cause this temporary slight decrease in co2
