HI I am just researching on different abx combo options. i read that doxycycline passes the bbb well and gets into the synovial fluid.
this sounds good.
has anyone had success on it?
what would be the optimal dose ?
also i read that some people did well on tetrycline according to ome doc's protocal of gihh dose tetra.
anyone know how high it was?
thanks
lynn

I'm on day 16 of Doxy. 400 mg daily is my dose. Which means two pills twice a day. I spread them out so that they are almost 12 hours apart. I also have to eat with doxy because it will make me vomit if I take it on an empty stomach.

Doxy is supposed to be pretty good. My LLMD just put me on it because it's winter.. apparently, doxy makes your skin very sun sensitive. Not a good idea in the summer time.

I just started to Herx on the doxy this week. It's not keeping me from doing my daily activities, but it's not EASY to say the least.

He also put me on 10mg of Lexapro to help with the emotional side of Herx's. Plus, SSRI's help with pain.

I'll write more to you as I get more time with Doxy. Day 16 is still in the beginning stages.

Most of us got through doxy. It was helpful for me but some symptoms were still around after.
I herxed on the next abx, so apparently doxy didn't clear me from bugs that well. Still, it was helpful.

Doxy at 400mg/day was profoundly helpful for me, even though I only took it for 10 days the first time, and later for 3 weeks.

Helped to clear up some awful neuro symptoms, but it alone is not the cure, and I did not want to take it long term.

Be sure to take it with lots of food, and ginger if any naseau!

I've been on Doxy one month now. Today is the first day I have experienced what I think might be a herx but won't know for sure unless it persists. Could just be having one of "those days".

I have the collection kit and Dr order for IGeneX and will have that done on Monday. The doc I'm trying to get in to see requires the IGeneX test first before he sees the patient.

I had lichen schlerosis and that cleared up within the first week of Doxy so at least one good thing has come of it. Can't say it is helping with anything else yet.

After IV in 94 I was given doxy. Just doxy and stayed in remmission for 9 years.

Was it the incial IV?

Or the nine years on just doxy?

Or jusy the lyme deciding to go into hiding for a while?... Don't really know which one.

But over the years I have used doxy again but in combo with other abx's & it kicks ketes but!

It also did a number on my GI tract when I used it in combo. Be careful.

Hope you are feeling better soon
Dana

Make sure to talk over everything first with your LLMD

Citruslyme-

Good to hear from you? How did you LLMD apt. go?

Did I miss an update.

One nice thing about amox and dioxycycline is that they are cheaper than some of the others.

My daughter herxed on dioxy. I think it was a start and got the germ load down before we brought on the bigger guns.

How is your mom?

No success to report yet, but on Nov 6 I started a doxy cycle and experienced a 10 day Herx! The Herx manifest as extreme twitching, we're talking server "bag of worms" twitching in soles and sides of both feet where there's like 100 twitches per second over a broad area for hours on end, day after day, as well as sharp muscular contractions and cramps in the calves, and random bursts of twitching almost anywhere in my body (stomach, back, arms, face, ...).

After over a week of that I was worried that it's not a Herx, but on the 10th day (Nov 15) it began to diminish and today it's pretty calm. However, I spent almost all of yesterday in bed as a combo of depression (and I think only indirectly condition induced, just thinking this neuro-condition suspected to be lyme is going to eventually kill me) and because the less I move, the less I twitch. So the appearance of lessening might just be a consequence of moving less.

But, my point is that my experience suggests that doxy may produce a dramatic Herx. On the other hand, my first and temporarily very successful cycle on Amoxicillin produced no Herx and almost overnight amelioration of all symptoms. After the symptoms came back after that cycle, Amox was totally ineffective. [Frown]
