I have a nephew with Lyme who has a symptom that appears to be fairly common (which doesn't make it less bothersome) but I haven't seen any postings on it for awhile now, so thought I'd ask for feedback.

He has burning skin -- NOT tingling, NOT painful, and not "perceived" (as in neuropathic) burning; his skin really IS hot to the touch. It's also tight, so to him it feels exactly like a bad sunburn. It makes him feel lousy, of course. He tends to sleep with the windows open and blow fans on himself at work.

He has a normal body temp in the 97's and that's not new, but lately with this symptom his normal temp's been "normal" -- 98.4, 98.7 etc. So his body really IS heating up.

He's been on Spectracef and Septra (doc suspects Bart as well as Lyme) for a couple of months, and this regimen brought him back to life, but then they stopped making Spectracef (?) and now he's on Omnicef and Doxy. (Doc said he doesn't need any more Septra.) He never did quite as well with this regimen, but he felt better, and now this lousy symptom again.

Anyone have advice or experience with this? I myself have had plenty of strange skin sensations but they could never really be felt by anyone else who touched my skin. His can. Many thanks.

Is it red at all? Possible cellulitis?

When I was very ill, I had this symptom. With treatment of abx, it's gone for awhile.

I had the hot burning skin and facial flushing, tight skin like a sunburn with Babesia. Make sure he is checked for babesia and treated for it. All my skin burning issues went totally away for good with babesia and Lyme treatment. [Smile]

I'm not sure if I am experiencing the same thing or not. I get the hot feeling also and turn somewhat red and if you touch me, the skin will blanch to white. I also have the same sunburn feeling along with what I call prickling. I have described it as how it feels when you put clothes over a sunburn or a scratchy feeling on my skin. Also my skin feels hot but I feel cold all over. I even seem to get chills. Most of this seems to happen to the stomach/trunk area of my body and by wearing clothes makes it almost unbearable. My skin really feels thight over my face. I seem to get this mostly in the colder weather and it seems to go away in the warmer months. My dermo has called it a temp sensitive type hive, even though it doesn't resemble a hive at all. I just know I suffered with this for the last 5 years, so I really dread when the season changes to fall/winter. I try to keep my skin moist and my dermo recommended using Aquanil to wash (no soap) and after bathing using mineral oil to keep the skin moist. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so have you found anything that helps?

yep, thats me. Like a sunburn. Hubby would say I was like a hot furnace. I also get a nettle like burning too , where clothes are all too scratchy. Whenever I shower or bathe I always have an aloa vera gel to spread all over my skin. This helps me some. It has no scents or additives, just plain aloe vera.

I am hoping this goes away when I get babs and bart protocol. I have been in bicillin for almost two years and it has helped some. I feel for your nephew, I have lived with this now for 6 years.

I'm not a doctor but typically red, hot, tight skin means inflammation. Happens a lot with tissue injury. Lyme can cause inflammation and abx causes inflammation because the bugs die and release toxins into the tissue (according to my doc).

A few supplements that can be used for inflammation are digestive enzymes taken on an empty stomach between meals, Vit A, serraflyzyme, fish oil, green lipped mussels and many others. You must be careful in taking supplements, the same as medications. You can get too much vit A and some on here think that fish oil could be a problem. I take it and don't think it is a problem. Be sure to talk to his LLMD about the inflammation or any supplements.

I have the same hot skin issue - it is actually hot to the touch - mostly my hands, sometimes other body parts as well. Hot enough so that when it's acting up, my toddler does not want my hands on his bare skin because it's "too hot."

This is completely different from the tingling & burning sensations I also have, which are painful, but can't be felt by someone else.

My skin, though, does not look red at all. While it may feel like a sunburn, it does not look like one at all.

This seems to wax and wane along with my other symptoms.
