I just started taking Doxy. I have tried numerous times in the past but was only able to tolerate the Doryx.
I can only get tablets now. I've gotten new instruction on how to take it an avoid burning a hole in my stomach, I think. It's only been 3 days but my limit on theis stuff in the past had been 4-5 days so am doing ok in that regard.
I've taken 100mgs for 3 days running. Oh, my, I think this is way too higha starting dose for me.
1st day massive inflammation and sudden muscle pains and all over ouchie with light sensitivity and headache. coldn't lift arms for the pain.
Morning of second day too achey and wimpering and in all over pain to get out of bed for many hours. Took the second pill in the evening also severe muscle pain in the side of my neck. The first day it was shoulder, otherside. Migraine by bed time.
Today, felt pretty bad very achy with shooting pains and tried to take a nap but the pulse in swelling on the top of my head was driving me insane it felt swollen and hot.
It seemed to subside some by evening and took another 100 mgs. Less sharp muscle pain and and was not too too bad but back to migraine, jaw pain. Top of head thing. pupils too big and taking in too much light.
So long babbling story to ask...
Does this get better? Am I starting out too fast for the piker I am? I know everyone take a whole lot more but this is one of the toughest meds for me.
The swelling and pulse in the top of the head is freaky!
Any input and advice, experiences, something to go on? Should I keep on or take a break and start over? Can I get these in 50 mg and work up? (I've been told not to cut them.)
Man the bones in my face hurt. So does my neck.
I metabolize meds extremely slowly so I may be getting way more then the 100 mgs I've taken. I can't imagine doubling this and living to tell the tale.
Anybody have advice, or words of wisdom?
Thnak you for any input and maybe someone has had similar experience and can give me an idea how it went for them.
Goona lay down and try to get my head from blowing up.
Thank you and sorry to be asking baby questions and whining.

Dear True,
I'm so sorry you're suffering as it surely sounds you are.
Doxy is one heavy-duty brain med. No way around it.
Sounds as if it had something to go after up there, from your reaction.
It's known to cause brain inflammation - so is dieoff or herxing. Possibly you could ask your doc for a scrip of Diamox - this reduces cranial pressure for about half of my LLMD's patients.
Alternatively, a med like Relpax (a vasodilator) can give you some more brain blood flow; used sparingly it may get you through the worst.
Wish I knew some more suggestions, I know what you're experiencing is tough.
It really will get better. My first month on doxy when first treated was pretty evil. Toward the end it improved.
Hang in.
Michelle

Thanks Michelle,
I may just have to stop it.
I can't take Diamox or Methazolimide. Both are Sulfonimides and I'm allergic. I tried Diamox once since nobody mentioned; big ole red giant hives.
I'll call the doc today.
I always have a headache but don't think I can stand one at this level for much longer. I"m afraid something in my head will explode. Too much pressure everywhere from neck up.

Too, too much. Stayed in bed until a little while ago and am about to go back.
I called and am stopping for a couple of days to see if it clears. Then decide whether to restart at a lower dose and slowly raise it or go to something else entirely.
ouch all over

TBF, Your always sending me this things so here's one for you .
Now if that didnt make those migraine type headaches subside ,,,do you take ANY supplement Magnesium ???
My feeble brain says somewhere here I read where magnesium tabs made even the toughest migrain headaches go run and hide within 30 minutes. IF it doesnt help, it wont hurt ya, wouldnt think. Extra calcium might help too.
I take both daily or pain goes off the chart. Course people deem me weird. If I run out I am running to the store for more in just a couple days of EXTREME pain.,,,go figure.
Works as good as the RX pain meds and better with all combined!!!
Woks for me--just don--

Thanks for the s Trails and Don!
I have tried a little Magnesium, last night. Nada as usual, magnesium doesn't do anything for me, not orally anyway.
I never tried Calcium. I don't imagine it could hurt. (I just got tests back that showed a low Calcium level.)
I don't think this is a migraine. I just don't know what it is. It comes with rapid cycling chills and sweats, too.

Hi True, I haven't taken Doxy or antibiotics, so I have little advice to offer in that regard.
I know you will be travelling so take care of yourself. Can you call your LLMD and ask him how to proceed. To rough it out, decrease the dose, or stop?

My poor Trueblue!
I haven't been able to get on & read much lately and haven't been able to compose much in the way of replies. I've been in a funk myself, sorry.
I felt so terrible to look and find you here, in this state, this AM. I really hope by now you're sound asleep & not in pain anymore.
All I can think of that might give some relief with the headaches is icepacks, to reduce some inflamation.
In light of the headaches/chills/sweats, I'm thinking maybe you have more Babs to hit. I just finished another course. I don't remember if you have Bart, do you?
I'm thinking that if you metabolize ABX more slowly, you may need more space than 12 hrs between doses. Has LLMD given that consideration?
I'm going to go see if I can figure out anything for you. If I don't get back here in a reasonable amount of time, pm me (or yodel), I might get lost.
Ali

I'm sorry sweetie, I've just confused myself again. I'm having trouble connecting the dots lately. It's very depressing. I hope someone else can do better.

Thanks, Ali, sweetie! How are you doing?
There's no liver stuff this time LFTs are perfect!
I wasn't even dosing the Doxy every 12 hours I was only taking 100mg/day (one pill). Bad, bad idea, regardless.
I think way too big a starting dose for me. I was told to stop and see if it clears. The headache was less by last night. Half maybe but couldn't sleep for all the sweating. I got in about 4 hours waking every few minutes.
The headache is coming back now but I don't think as bad. I'm going to see if I can sleep without swimming, hah!
When/if it stops I'll either start much lower and work up or try something else entirely.
That was the scariest thing I've ever have happen in my head. I was sure something was going to blow out. I was seeing yellow and voilet alternating in front of my eyes. Too much pressure.
I'm running out of hands to hold things with. On for my head and one for my side don't seem enough. I may have to grow a few new ones.
What I "think" happens to me is meds go through my system so slow, as does everything else, that I absorb much more than you would normally from them. That's the best explanation/guess I can come up with right now. I wasn't always this way.
I will see the LLMD next week and make a new plan. And yes, I am Babs-ariffic. Pffft... (and am pretty sure I have Bart too, just no + test on it.)
Gonna get soem sleep if I can. Thanks kiddo, this should clear soon I would hope.

My doc had me on Doryx previously, and now he has me on Mondox and Bactrim DS. Herx is quite intense. Took me a while to work up to 2x100mg Mondox and 2 Bactrim DS per day.
As a practical note, both these have discount cards where you pay no more than $10 per month regardless of your deductible. I got the card from my doc; you may want to ask your doc or pharmacist. I couldn't find something on Google.
