Hi everyone,

Just a quick update and question. I not only had an echo, but the cardiologist saw me as well. When she found out I was being treated for Lyme, she said she wanted to do some other tests to be sure I don't have carditis.

She said the probability is low, about 10%, but she doesn't want to take any chances. She said that despite the start of Toprol XL, my heart rate was still high during the echo.

She had her technician put on a 24 hour holter monitor. I had a lot of tachycardia and palpitations while I was wearing it. Cardiologist wants to see me again next week to discuss my results and go to the next step, whatever that may be.

I'm happy my primary doctor sent me to this physician as a precaution. I see my LLMD for the 2nd time next Tuesday, as I complete 4 weeks of Ceftin, and move to the next step. I am showing some improvements with some of my symptoms and feel ready to possibly go back to work next week.

I have filed for short term disability through my job to cover me while I was out the month of November. Has anyone had any difficulty getting short term disability coverage? I don't know why I'm feeling rather anxious about asking my LLMD to fill out the papers next week.

When I started my antibiotics, I felt there was no way I could work, hell I couldn't even get out of bed. My job has been great with understanding all of this. Thanks for any responses!

Kelly

I took short term disability last year with no problem, but that was before I had the lyme diagnosis. Then I was told it was CFIDS.

All I needed was a note from my doc saying I would be out for several weeks due to illness.

I'm sure someone else can answer specifically about lyme disability.

My work handed me Long Term Disability papers when they found out I had Lyme. I have two years to either be awarded Social Service Disability, which I have been encouraged to apply for, or go back to work.

I was on STD this year for Lyme. After the 12 weeks was up, they were going to give my job away.

I went back to work far before I was ready.

Then, after being back for a month I received a letter stating they were denying the claim, except for the first two weeks. (mind you, I should have been notified during the two weeks that they were only covering that)

They didn't feel that Lyme can make you sick enough to not be able to function! (HAHAHA!!!)

Now, they are taking back all the money they paid me while I was out and I am stuck in an appeals process.

My LLMD sent a letter telling them that I was not capable of working, but that does not seem to matter to them.

Because they are taking half my income every pay period, I had to stop treatment. (my doctor moved and the other doctor there is out of network for me and I would have had to pay a deductable and out of pocket and wait for reimbursments after that)I also had to stop other treatments I am supposed to being doing.

So, now I have to wait until next month to see another LLMD and begin ABX again.

My one advice, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE IN WRITING WHAT THEY WILL COVER.

I was on STD before I had any dx. It was the symptoms and the letters from my therapist and psychiatrist, who both knew my problems were primarily physical not psych. [kiss]

A doctor who is familiar with disability cases knows how to write letters that will get it for you, although some companies are easier to deal with than others. [Eek!]

I was on STD for 4 weeks then I tried to go back to work for 4 hrs per day. I did that for 3 weeks but I was so tired and dizzy that my supervisor recommended that I try to get stronger first.

I have been off another 4 weeks and will try and do the 4 hr. thing again next week.

I will be 65 next June so I am hoping to get to that date and then possibly draw SS.
