my first day with adding avelox to the mix of biaxin and plaquenil and two hours later swollen tongue, unsteady gait, severe heat across chest and arms. had to call ambulance. they said "possible allergic reaction" how the heck are we supposed to know herxes from ALLERGIC REACTION???????????????? I'd associate a swollen tongue with an allergic reaction. (but what do I know?)
You did the rightthing by going to the ER.
Call the LLMD in the morning, if you ahven;t already and don't take anything that you don't normally until then.
Rest up, detox if you can, drink lots.
I hope you feel better in the morning.

Me too. The heat across the chest is pretty strange too. Doesn't sound like a Lyme symptom. Generally, a herx would include a symptom known to be associated with Lyme.

I had allergic reactions to antibiotics as a child so I'm always on the lookout for possible allergic symptoms.
I was told they usually include something such as swollen tongue or lips, itching, rash/hives, breathing problems.
You did the right thing.

I had essentially that same reaction to keflex years ago, and I was told it was the early stages of anaphylactic shock... I was told never, ever to take a cephalosporin again, or it could be deadly.
I'm glad you called 911 -- that sounds really dangerous.
