ADDING 1-25-07:

my long term salesman dropped by this morning returning my check for 1st month's coverage after they had CASHED it! when i received the CANCELED check; i thought ....GOOD, I HAVE COVERAGE BUT they..

DENIED me due to:

transferring and ambulation difficulty;

balance problem...(i fell 1 yr. ago at bottom of basement stairs!);

and overall health history!

i knew i'd be super lucky IF I GOT IT! oh well, i took tutu's advise and went for it!

something for the rest of you in the EARLY, BEGINNING STAGES OF LYME where you're not crippled up bad due to decades of lyme to think about! [Big Grin] [Wink]
********************

edited to add in dec. 06:

today i got 1 estimate only for this:

Penn Treaty Netword America insur. co., Allentown, PA --

SR 400
$100/day for 3 years
120 days deductible

$70/day for 6 months .. home health care coverage

yes spouse disc.
yes tax qualified

base policy annual premium $1271/yr.

NO inflation protection option ... no additional options or riders available to this lyme kid

w/disc. 10% $1,143.90 yr.

$25 1-time policy fee

it was different than the $130/day we discussed when he was here.

hi lymies,

i'd like your input please IF you have bought long term care insurance, and have you benefited from having it?

we had someone come 2 days ago, and i would only be eliglble for 1 plan IF that due to my chronic lyme.

please share your thoughts with me here or by private message if you would!

i want to make a well-informed decision as both hubby/i wish to remain in our homes as long as we possibly can.

IS THERE ANYTHING YOU REGRET ABOUT BUYING THE POLICY YOU DID?

thank you so much to my wonderful, informed lymenet friends here! god bless you all!
[group hug] [kiss]

I tried to get long-term care insurance when my dx was still CFS and FM. I couldn't get it. [Frown] I doubt that would change with a Chronic Lyme dx. However, if I improve significantly then I might try again. [Wink]

I somehow missed it when the school system introduced it as a benefit. I may have been on leave at the time, but I still never had it offered to me. [Mad] Perhaps because they figured it would cost them too much. [cussing]

Guess I'll just be mooching off my kids. [Big Grin] At least one has decided to go into a lucrative field, rather than teaching or non-profit work.

I bought long term care through the company I worked for when I was hired 7 yeast ago. The premiums were low, one of the benifits of my company - It is now paying for my med coverage due that my doc still has me as disabled

They denied me coverage based on my Lyme disease several years back.

So if you can get it....GO FOR IT!
