Hi all~ I'm starting Malarone today. If any of you have taken it, I'd like to know what your experience has been with it.

Thanks....Timaca

Thanks for your replies. Day one of Malarone went just fine. Only 29-89 more to go! [Wink]

I think Plaquenil will be added in a bit later. Due to my extended bout with C. diff, which I really think may be gone (24 days off medicine without a relapse [woohoo] )....my LLMD won't be putting me on zith anytime soon. He wants my gut good and healed up before trying that.

I had great sucess with malarone zith and art.
I did two runs of the stuff 28 days each over a year ago. 2 pills of malaron 500 mg zith and various doses of art.

But over the last 6 months I added in Art to whatever I was on pulsing it 4 days on and 3 to 4 days off for a number of periods.

Then one last run about 3 months for about 10 days - Had one herx after 2 days for about 3 days and then nothing. No babs since. Also have been tested a number of time energenically and no sign of it left. I liked malarone, it was easy compared to other things that I have taken.

I took malarone for about five months, one pill a day. Think this dose was too low. Didn't see any real progress until mepron used instead. What dose of malarone are you on? As you know, people differ in their response, by drug and by dose.

lou~ I also take one pill a day. Looking at the bottle, it says 250/100 mg tab. Not sure what that means, and for some odd reason, they didn't include the patient literature with it. I weigh 122 pounds.

Hi,
I took one Malarone a day, had to stop due to other problems but am to start it again, soon.

I found it easier to tolerate than most meds I've been on. Phew!

The 250/100 is 250 mgs Atovaquone (same as Mepron). The 100 mg is Proguanil (another anti-malarial).

I think the standard dose for mepron is l spoonful twice a day = 750mg x 2. So, a dose of malarone at 250mg a day is a whole lot less. Maybe it will work for you.

HI,

I was on it for about 4 months (and prior to that I had also been on Mepron 8-9 months several months before). I was on 4 Malarone a day, and was supposed to be on 6, but could never function on 6. Was like a zombie. OK on 4 with no side effects. Also, not sure it helped me though. However, new LLMD has me starting back on it again soon, but only on ONE malarone a day.

I will not be adding art at this time. I took it earlier in the year, as per Dr. Z's chinese herbal protocol. I took it for a little over 40 days, which was what was suggested.

I can't take Mepron, for that is often taken with an antibiotic (zithromax, correct?) And, due to my long bout with C. diff, my doctor doesn't want me on oral antibiotics quite yet.

Hi all~ Well I took Malarone yesterday and today. I ended up with a migraine both nights. Therefore, I'm going to stop the Malarone for now.

I did have a month last year where I got migraines a LOT. (Normal is 2-3 a year for me).

I don't know if the migraines are linked to the Malarone or not. One of the side effects is headaches. So...I'll stop it and see if the migraines go away. If they do, then I'll start the Malarone again and see if they come back.

At any rate, I had to come home from the office Christmas party due to the migraine. [Frown]

I had a headache for 5 weeks straight on Malarone. Unrelenting pressure in my head that was a hairline away from unbearable. I had drenching sweats and in the beginning an even harder time breathing.

I have been on it for four months, and for the first time since I was a teenager, I have clear lungs. I can walk up the stairs without being out of breath. My head pressure went almost all away, and I only sweat excessively when I am just waking up, which I don't get.

I am on a bunch of stuff including Primaxin, but I think Malarone helped the most, it was just utter hell in the beginning.

Hmmm....very interesting Gambler. I ended up with a migraine this morning too! So, three out of the last 3 days I've had a migraine. I stopped the Malarone (didn't take one this morning). We'll see if the migraines continue.

If they stop, I'll give myself a week of being headache free and Malarone free before starting up again. If the migraines resume when I start the malarone I will assume they are related.

I see my LLMD in early January. It will be good to discuss this with him.

In the meantime, my head sure hurts!

Hey little t..

May I suggest.. don't wait to contact the LLMD about the headaches. Give them a call and ask what they think you should do.

It could be a herx-like reaction.. or something else.

My head pressure is really bad these days.. and it is from the babs. But when on Mepron way back then.. those horrible headaches eventually went away and WOW was I feeling wonderful for it!

Good luck!
