i have 2 questions...first, i have not been treated yet for lyme..i was going to my PCP 4 diagnosis and treatment and he agreed to start antibiotic treatment but he got very ill and is hospitalized at the moment so im just waiting for him to get out so we can try antibiotics..so my first question is, has anyone here been treated by their general practitioner for lyme?? my doc is WONDERFUL and very open-minded and wants to learn as much as possible about lyme so he can help me...and my next question is, what (if any) vitamins can i be taking now that could help me now and in the long run with lyme treatment?? sorry for such a long post....

Hi-I am being "treated" through my also open-minded PCP-First I gave him a copy of Dr. B's 30 page recommendations (you can find this on the medical page under Newbie links-a must read as far as I can tell...)Since I kept bringing him ticks all summer, believe he recognizes a steep learning curve when he faces one [Smile]

He tested me 2x-first basic titer, then western blot (both processed through inadequate labs) So I did a phone consult with a distant LLMD. He sent me the lab slip for MDL labs to get a "real" test-My results showed only band 41...we went with his recommendation of at least 2 months on doxy @ 400mg/day....dosage & length of treatment can make a major difference, especially if you are catching it right away! For me it's now wait & see...You might want to see if any one in his office is willing to OK lab work there or at Igenex (both do more sophisticated Lyme testing)Phone #'s for both are also in Newbie links..

I'd strongly suggest you get on a good probiotic even before starting abx if possible (many here recommend theralac-expensive, but it works for me..go to theralac.com) and adjust your diet to eliminate sugar & as many simple carbs as you can! Anything you can do to control yeast will be a good thing!

You would be wise to locate a LLMD-(Lyme literate doc) that you could see down the road if necessary-many here seem to have co-infections...It could take awhile to get into one-might as well get on the waiting list!Depending on your current symptoms your PCP may not be comfortable prescribing the drug combinations & dosages you may require-

Good luck!
Sue
