I've been on treatment for 2 1/2 years, and be it slow, I have made some progress. But over the last 2 months I have continued to slid back, with old symptoms reimergence and some scarry new ones.

During this time my LLMD has switched my abxs, but I see no improvement, only discouraging decline. I've seen him 3 times in the last month and a half!

Any help or encouraging words would be appreciated.
Nancy

Been there (in fact I am still there-going of 5 years now).
A couple of notes for you to consider.

3 time in 1.5 months is really too short a time to see if ther has been a good or bad response. I have seen that there is a day to day and week to week flucutation that can last weeks at a time. The only way I can judge the progress is every few months, do I feel better now than I did 4 to 6 months ago? If not then the drugs need to be changed.

If there is some other infection floating around (flu comes to mind) it can set you back for many weeks. It has for me on several occasions. Many bad things start to re-appear but evenutally clear up provided I get sufficient rest (which means every day). A similar problem occurs with most chronic diseases. It is unfortunlately is part of the whole picture.

The apparent relapse can as be part of syndrome related to multiple infection (co-infection). In such a case, when on infections if eleimiated, the other one, which may not be as suseptable to the drugs as the first one, can stat to take over as the dominant problem. In this case, a change in drugs would likely be in order.

As I noted, I have had several setbacks but the long term trend has been positive, still it is extremely difficult to deal with the setbacks but I just try to remember the past where I could hardly walk, had no feeling on 1/2 of my body, could not even think and had a hard time seeing. While some of this stuff comes back for a few days or so now and them to remind me what it was like, they are thankfully are only short term, whereas in the past thery were every day for months on end.

I know it is difficult, I have been there and still am. Just do your best.

I agree with David, get checked for possible co-infections.

I went through similar situation. What I thought was herxing or relapse after two years of abx, was really Babesia rearing it's ugly head. I finally started to feel well after being treated for Babesia. My 2 cents worth.
