I have the sensation that my legs, face and hands fall asleep but I never notice any swelling. However, when I feel like my face has fallen asleep I do get redness.

Well....I had the swelling, but not the sensation of going to sleep or rubberband cutting off circulation effect. Seems I remember Robi describing that once regarding her big toe.

My arms were swollen and disfunctional from the elbow down and felt like a million bees were inside stinging me. Same with my ankles and feet. I could not stand more than 5 mins. Had to keep a plastic chair in the shower. I couldn't open doors, brush my hair or teeth, open pill bottles, drink bottles, etc. I was totally dependent on my family. Thank God for my saint husband who actually seemed to like tending to me.

What started me on the road to recovery was a vegan diet. This was no sugar, no meat, no dairy, no eggs. This is the least inflamatory diet you can eat. It is the first step to healing a Leaky Gut. I had to learn about this possible cause of my arthritis from my own research efforts. You can read as I did at www.drmcdougall.com. He said "if the diet is going to help you, you will know it within 2 weeks". I felt I could do anything for 2 weeks. Within 2 weeks my swelling reduced by at least 50% and I was able to walk as much as 2 hrs before I had to sit.

A Yale study on AIDS resulted in their conclusion that 70% of the immune system lies in the gut. Most of us who are chronically ill have leaky guts and it is that condition rather than the diseases themselves that are causing many of our symptoms.

I don't know if this is the cause of your swelling and tightness, but healing your body and strengthening your immune system can only help you in your fight to get well and who knows, it may have the same incredible results for you that it has had for me.

I'm no longer vegan but did find a doctor who is trained in Leaky Gut, Nutrition, etc to work with me. He has brought me to the very brink of wellness. I am still on my journey but living a normal life at this time.
