that's part of what I have and refers to the progressing destruction of the myelin sheath around the nerves, leading to neuro symptoms and nerve pain. MS is considered a disease, where the body eats away it's own myelin sheath (auto-immune reaction), lesions can be seen on MRIs. I am from Germany and that particular strand of Borrelia (B. Garinii) loves to attack nerve cells. I think, the bacteria attacks your weakest spot, no matter where you're from or where the tick is from. MS was my first dx, but I have Lyme.
